Even better, she used to make a meatloaf covered in macaroni & cheese. You could FEEL your arteries clogging as you ate it but it was gooooooooood!

BTW- she doesn't make it anymore due to the health impact of it. (I loved the 60's- nothing was bad for you back then!)

38. My Aunt made the best "Meat loaf"- get this.
She would flatten out the meatloaf, put sliced ham and mozzarella cheese on top and then roll it up. It was sort of like "chicken cour-don blue" but with hamburger rather than chicken. It had to be really bad for you health wise but it was soooo good!

54. Especially living in Japan. Mexican food is not big here.
I have to shop around to find tortilla chips, salsa & jalapenos at a decent price. Sometimes I go to the Costco on the other side of town for jack cheese. Otherwise I have to make do with the mozzarella from the local supermarket. (most stores here only have very few kinds of cheese) So I load up the chips with the cheese, salsa, jalapenos, green onions, sometimes a little beef if I have some left over from tacos the night before, then cook it all up in the toaster oven.

It's da bomb.

If we want mexican food at a restaurant, it's almost an hour drive, and it will run us at least $40 for just a really basic meal that would be much less at a US chain.

But the place we go to "Chili Joe" in Fukuoka, is really fairly good. Not as spicy as real Tex-Mex, but they use very good quality ingredients. The tacos have excellent shredded beef, not ground.

I grew up in El Paso, so I'll always have a soft spot in my head for Mexican food.

57. I suppose. People here don't eat sushi as often as Americans think.
We probably have sushi about 4 times a year. It's kind of more like party food or hors d'oerves (sp?) A typical non-fancy dinner eating out might consist of:

Udon or ramen

Tonkatsu (breaded/fried prok cutlet) and rice

Okonomiyaki (like a pancake, but with lots of cabbage, pork & seafood in it, slathered with sauce and mayo)

donburi (flavored beef or chicken with onions on a bowl of rice)

a bento with fish, veggies & rice.

Chanpon (like ramen, but with a bunch of cabbage and seafood on top YUM!)

yakisoba (like stir-fried lo mein noodles)

yakiniku (korean-style barbecued strips of beef)

"Western" foods - they are Japanized, but pretty good - Omu rice, an omelet with ketchup-flavored rice and chicken inside

hamburg (basically a small meatoaf)

steak

sandwiches

pizza (watch out for the more oddball ones - common toppings are potatoes, corn, mayonnaise, shrimp)

Costco actually has the most "American"-tasting and low-priced pizza in town.

I like all the foods here, but none of them are really my comfort foods. They do eat a LOT of rice, at almost every meal...
