Poll question: How happy are you, overall? On a scale of 1-10
I'm talking on a day by day basis, how do you feel about your life?

I'm a 2 and some days I'm a 1 :bounce:

How are you doing?

and if you'd like to give this a kick once in a while, that would be cool too :hi:

1. Wow
My answer was much different than it would have been 6 months ago.

I have challenges right now (to put it mildly), but I am generally happy.

2. I wonder how much of it is attitude? Even with challenges you can stay
pretty happy, while others can have a easy life and still be miserable?

sorry you are having troubles and I hope they are resolved quickly

21. I really hate that
This idea that it's attitude; it seems to accuse a person who isn't happy that it's all their own fault. This pernicious idea seeks to tell people that they can change everything about their lives, all they have to do is will it. The corrollary is that a person who is suffering suffers because they want to. This is a lie. Depression may well be a rational response to an intolerable set of circumstances, and suggesting to a person who suffers that they should simply think their way out of their predicament is unhelpful and heartless.

24. you misunderstood billy
I know there are medical and other reasons for a person to be sad. sometimes sad is the only reasonable response to some situations.

there is no such thing as comparative pain and I was wrong to imply that.

but I do believe that what ever you focus on gets bigger. if you focus on the problem it can seem overwhelming. if you look for a good thing, it can sometimes lift you up if only for a minute.

8. ugh!
I was at work the other night and they had an auxiliary initiation so they brought me a plate of the food the ladies brought for their function.

get this--on the plate was a Ham sandwich on white bread with Velveeta and Miracle Whip, Cheese Doritos, macaroni salad with Miracle Whip and relish (nothing else, just elbow macaroni, relish and Miracle whip) and a deviled egg that was egg yolk and mayonnaise, no spice, no garnish, no nothing

14. yeah, it was pretty scary. Once upon a time I attended a pot luck in rural West VA
that was pretty much local people.

We made tabouli with fresh tomatoes and lemon juice. We refused to tell anyone what it was, just said try some and see.

That HUGE bowl was gone in 15 minutes  Only then did we tell em it was bulgur with lemon juice and mint.

they were all ready to be grossed out until they remember how tasty it was

Just shows you can lead people to try new stuff as long as you don't tell em what it is ;)

7. I'm sort of like the opposite of a manic-depressive
On a scale of 1-10 I'm always ALWAYS a 5.

I'm never really upset, even when bad things happen to me, and I'm never really all that thrilled when things are going well.

I have brief moments here and there, like when I'm watching sports and my teams are doing well or poorly, but in terms of my life and things that affect me, I'm pretty even 99% of the time.

28. Exactly!

I've reverted to my childhood love of silly things & I think that helps! My kids say they will soon be parenting me. :silly:

BTW, I understood what you typed above about attitude. As I mentioned above it took years of heartache & pain to get to this point. My life has not been an easy one. By some people's standards it probably isn't even a happy one right now. However it's the one I was dealt & I'm making the most of it. I learned that I could focus on the good things in my life, which at times seemed non-existent, or I could focus on the bad things. Focusing on the good things didn't make the bad things go away but it certainly helped me deal with them. Focusing on the bad things just made me more miserable.
One day at a time I try to find joy in the little things. Yesterday it was the first flower of a hollyhock that the damn rabbits usually eat before it gets big enough to bloom. That thing is 5 years old & this is the first time it has flowered. :banghead:

I believe my attitude in the past had a lot to do with me being happy now. Or I'm just too damn stubborn to admit life sucks. :P
Either way, I voted for the "supremely, exuberantly ecstatic 99% of the time", and I'm standing by that. Yes, it is awesome!

The world is changed by unhappy people.

because happy people don't want things to change.

So humanity makes progress only by those people who are unhappy with the status quo.

for what seems like forever -- and that's a high point any more. Somedays even 1 seems like a challenge. Life is not great right now, but I can put up one hell of a facade. Somehow I've been able to break the linkage between my feelings and behavior. I'm not unique in that regard, but there are days that I amazed that I can do it. Life is not good right now -- but it is what it is...
