Major cat-related scare this morning |
|
One of my cats comes from a long line of time-bomb cats. Every one of them, without exception, is packing a brain aneurysm. Of the nine cats we've had from this line, one died from liver dysfunction, one is still alive (and the subject of this thread) and seven died from burst aneurysms.
I don't know if this is rare or common (google "cat brain aneurysm" and you get lots of hits about people who had brain aneurysms and who had cats, but none about people whose aneurysms were IN the cats, like mine are), but the mechanism of action is remarkable: when they burst, the cat dies within minutes and all the blood in the cat runs out its muzzle. Before they burst, the cat acts completely normal.
This morning I'm sitting at my computer doing something with this cat on top of the computer when I noticed a red streak on the monitor. I looked up to see the cat's muzzle covered in blood.
Oh fuck.
I got the cat off the computer and put her on my workbench. She was in a slight daze, blood was dripping down at a fairly good rate, and she was meowing loudly. I'm standing there petting the cat waiting for her to die...when all of a sudden she stood up.
Fucking cat was having a dream and bit her tongue. She's fine now.
We lost our oldest cat to old age on Thursday; to lose two cats in less than a week would have been really bad.

Odd that you've lost seven cats from aneurysms. Never heard of that before.
I'm sorry about the loss of your other cat.
I just found out yesterday that my 12-13 yr old cat may have cancer in his mouth/jaw. He's going in for a biopsy on Wednesday.
