My indoor cat killed a bird somehow!! |
|
I came home from lunch with some church folks, walked into the house, and my cat Shadow greets me--carrying a dead bird!! I have no idea how it got into the house, and he never goes outside. But there it was. And then, while I'm freaking out (cuz I'm gonna have to deal with this dead critter to get it OUT of my house), he starts throwing it up in the air. I told him it wasn't going to fly anymore.
Then he growled at me when I swept it into a dustpan. And the other critters came downstairs blinking--they'd apparently just slept through Shadow's avian encounter.
It's gone now, and I've treated Shadow with flea stuff. I've been around birds enough to know I don't want any of their little guests on my cat!
How's your day been?

1. That wasn't the story I expected from your post title. |
|
I expected that he buzzed some of his peeps on the outside who busted a cap in the bird's ass.
I was then going to suggest checking him for gang tats.

4. LOL!!! No, that would be something Leo, my former alley cat |
|
would do. Probably has done. The surprise of this is that Shadow's been inside since kittenhood. They really are bundles of instinct!
But just in case, I've checked for tats. Nothing.

6. That was what I was just about to post, too |
|
Several years ago, I had an indoor cat that did the same thing, and the bird had come down the fireplace.

We get the occasional bat in the church, and they creep me out completely. I'd rather deal with a snake than a bat. They're amazing creatures, but I'd rather admire them from afar.
This seemed to be a barn swallow. Another impressive critter.

10. I had a baby barn swallow fall into my apt once. I couldn't |
|
keep it alive, though not for lack of trying. :^(
I also had a bat in the house once too, but as far as I know the cats and it did not interact. But that was back in the day when they still got their shots so I imagine they would have been ok.

11. I had a bird get in thru my dryer vent in the basement. |
|
My BIL has since put a hood on it but my cats were going nuts for a couple of weeks when the bird was in the basement. My son finally managed to throw a sheet over it and take it outside and release it. It flew awaw so maybe no damage, but who who knows? All I know was nothing was high enough in the basement for the cats to climb on and take down the bird. Otherwise they'd have gotten it. Cats will always be cats.
