Edited on Sun May-20-07 06:12 PM by HypnoToad
I have no "carbon offset projects", "carbon credit", "carbon credit cards", or any of the other jive things. I do what I can right now.

http://www.carbonfootprint.com/ (UK)
http://www.climatecrisis.net/takeaction/carboncalculator/ (US)

My personal impact is 6.45 -- smaller than average. (I use no heating oil or propane; I live in an apartment and I know the hot water is heated by natural gas so I did add that into the equation.)

Wow. That's the first time I've been 'smaller than average' for any test I found of interest...

1. It told me I should take fewer flights
even though I entered the number zero in the box.

What's fewer than zero?

7. I agree.
It's completely based in the usage of fuel, which I think is pretty cool as it isolates that one aspect. One MAJOR aspect.

It won't let me opt out of the natural gas/propane stuff, eventhough I don't use them at all.

I took another quiz which said if everyone lived like I did, we'd need 5 or 6 earths. So how come I'm all of a sudden with a much smaller than average footprint?

I live close enough to work that I only need to fill my 13 gallon tank about once a month.

Propane furnace/hot water but the house is so well insulated, I can turn the thermostat down to 50 at night and I've never had it kick on. When I'm home, I keep it set at about 64 and wear a sweater or sweatshirt.

I live just a couple of blocks from a 40 mile bike path that runs through the city alongside the river. Plus my neighborhood is very bike friendly with lots of bike lanes.

I fly less than once per year but 0 didn't sound quite right so I listed one long flight per year anyway. Last flight I took was almost a year ago and was only 350 miles.

20. Interesting...
I found at least 3 different Canadian carbon calculator sites...and I can't access any of them.

The laptop I'm using belongs to the provincial gov't; the woman I'm housesitting for is an employee. I should mention the Conservative provincial government, who doesn't want to do a damn thing about global climate change. :eyes:

Because I have a small car (Ford Focus) and drive as little as possible. I do have carbon offset for my car from terrapass.com, which is supposed to make my car carbon neutral. Should do that for my house, too.

But the site didn't have a year for 2007 when it came to selecting that car I drive, and I wonder if a partial-zero emissions car (like a 2007 Camry) would lower my score?

So if that's their delicate way of addressing an issue then it's a pretty stupid way to do it.

53. Mine's average
but I object to the way some things are calculated...such as the electricity use. We have some of the highest electricity and gas rates in the country and it would have made more sense to calculate it on the actual usage rather than the cost. It should have allowed an absolute zero for the things you don't use instead of a range and it should have also included things like more than one car.
