Assault Charges Against Former Creed Singer Scott Stapp Reduced (Assaulted Wife)
<snip>

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Former Creed frontman Scott Stapp had a felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor Monday, after an apparent confrontation with his wife over the weekend.

Stapp was initially charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony after being arrested Sunday at his home. No one was injured, Palm Beach County sheriff's officials said.

Judge Cory J. Ciklin reduced the charge "because the allegation is that Stapp threw a bottle of Orangina at his wife, at her head, and missed and the bottle broke," sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said.

"Based on the circumstances, the defense attorney argued that was not a deadly weapon," Miller said.

Stapp attorney Robert Gershman said: "The facts against him are weak. The judge saw that." Stapp was back at his studio in his home, Gershman said.

Stapp, 33, was married in February 2006 at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami to former Miss New York Jaclyn Nesheiwat. The couple have a baby daughter, Milan Hayat Stapp.
