depreciation: being broke
we have about $60 or less until Friday. So we won't starve or anything, but it kinda sucks and we'll be eating those old boxes of spaghetti instead of going to the store. On the other hand, my wife's definition of "broke" is different than mine, which usually means a negative number. :)

1. Broke
It's meant many different things to me over the years. But I clearly remember those times when it meant having absolutely nothing and nothing coming in. And bills.

Skygazer. The Bleeding Ulcer Years.

2. broke vs. poor?
Broke is not having anything until _____ (payday). Poor is not having anything and seeing no end in sight.
I have been broke many times. There is a certain desperation in being broke and hungry, but there can be a certain degree of liberation in being broke.

Good luck with your situation.

3. broke. I've been poor and this is broke
and yes, broke is infinitely more easily dealt with. Poor just sucks ass because your usually broke without the light at the end of the tunnel.

5. I see so many threads like this on DU and I cry
I've been there, more times than not. It shouldn't be like this in 2007. Maybe we should take up a donation drive for our friends in need besides the DU drive.

7. Next month I think we will have about $300
After the bills are paid to do things like eat and put gas in vehicles. The month after gets better, but June is going to be fucking scary in the Robot household. I hear you things are getting bad all over and people are getting desperate. I think we will have to ask parents for some money to help get us through, cause I don't see how we are going to make it. I wish you luck with your situation and hope things work out well.

8. thanks. good luck to you as well.
seriously, I am thankful to have a decent job - something that I've not always had - but as gas gets more expensive, and other unforeseen expenses pop up, the budget gets tighter and tighter. I have spent a number of years being quite poor and learning how to survive so I am optimistic. I hope things work out for everyone though.
