|
Its really neat to see a 14 year old girl playing golf with the boys. Hope she gets paired up with Vijay Singh.

2. What an awesome performance! |
|
Shooting 68 from the tips on a course set up by the PGA is unfathomable. I'm surprised there has been so little mention on DU. For reference purposes on how much she overwhelmed reasonable expectation, the Las Vegas and offshore betting outfits were listing 76 as her over/under betting line.
If Annika could putt like that, she would have made the Colonial cut easily last year. And Michelle's swing is beyond textbook, almost unfair. Low and slow on the backswing, like the club professionals are always emphasizing to me.
I just hope Michelle has already conquered most if not all of her teenage growth spurt. Six foot is ideal, or just slightly too tall, but any further away from the ball and she loses her advantage, with inevitable inconsistency.

3. No chance to get paired with our hero Vijay |
|
I forgot to mention the stuffy, class-structured pairing method embraced by the PGA during the first two rounds of each event.
Major winners are paired with major winners, non-winners play with non-winners, etc. There was no chance Michelle could have stared down and intimidated Vijay in the same pairing without making the cut. Scores dictate pairings during the weekend.
Colin Montgomerie, for one, is frequently miffed at his pairing status during events in the USA. As a world class player but non-winner of a major, or any event on the PGA tour, he is often paired with mid level players and hardly reluctant to spout off about that.

5. As it turned out, she missed the cut by a single stroke. |
|
A remarkable achievement nevertheless. She showed class and ability in this Sony Open.
The crowds were wowed....as was the commentators.

What's the take on this? Should she stick to the Jr events and "learn how to win"? Run to the LPGA and "learn how to win"? Or do what she wants to do and play with what appears to be her peers on the PGA?

7. She's clearly a prodigy |
|
Her impact on the game of golf will meet and possibly exceed Tiger Woods. That performance was phenomenal and it should be much more of a major story than it was. Frickin 14!!

I can only guess that in 10 years she will surpass the entire LPGA and maybe most of the PGA as well. Who knows? But it is amazing
