I gotta a question about those household sprays (febreze..etc)
I have never bought any of those products...but I have to ask...do they actually clean anything or do they just mask the smell in your home that comes from not cleaning it...

...and on that same note...why not just clean the house? Wouldn't that make it smell better?

I am clipping coupons and I have found a ton of coupons for products like this and I just don't get it...

1. I use them because of the dogs.
One of my dogs likes to sit on my living room couch. I find that it does remove the smell. Doesn't stain the furniture either.

2. so it is just for the smells...
kind of like room freshener?

or is it like that stuff that you could shake on carpet that would freshen and clean it..???

3. I think so. I never liked that carpet stuff because I didn't feel
as though it actually came out of the carpeting.

I DO like the Febreze. To me, anyway, it doesn't leave a lingering, cloying smell, which I like also, just kind of a fresh smell.

30. Same here. I have two dogs and without Fabreeze
my house would stink of dogs. Also, one of my dogs has frequent accidents and Fabreeze helps immensely to kill the odor.

5. I don't what I'd do without Febreeze.
It doesn't mask smells-actually gets rid of them. I use it on my curtains and on wool sweaters in the winter (can't afford to take them to the dry cleaner every time I wear them). Also does wonders for "dog" smell.

6. I use Fabreze with Allergen Reducers
Even though I have 2 cats, I *am* allergic to them. I spray the upholstered furniture and rugs to keep the dander down.

27. Toss the couch
or pour those enzyme odor neutralizers on the couch. That may work if the smell isn't way into the stuffing.

7. It is just for a quick refresh! I clean my house almost daily, but
I still like to spray Febreze! It is a laundry smell as opposed to a bleachy smell!

21. Its a chemical smell, its a coverup.
You could save water by not bathing and before going out hose yourself down with chemicals.

To be able to smell things isnt a bad thing.

If you wear blacked out sunglasses you wont see the dirt so it too wont be there!

Same Logic.

That danger to birds is not unique to Febreze; it applies to any cleaner in aerosol/spray form.

11. I use the spray on my furniture (gets rid of dog smell) and I use
the laundry additive (I'm sensitive to dyes & perfumes but this gets rid of any musty or yucky smell and laundry just smells clean - with well water that's not always possible!)

I also use the spray on winter coats or sheets that have been in the closet for a while to 'freshen' them. The allergen reducer spray doesn't leave a scent, just gets rid of the smell.

40. I wont use the corporate product name,
Why do you like chemicals on your home surfaces to only mask the oder. Dont you let your dog out?
Where do you live that you have mildew problems. If you clean mold and mildew it wont grow and smell.
The commercials have convinced many that this approach is a good one, it isnt. Would you spray this stuff directly on your body? Because thats where it ends up. Not a good way to go green, not good for you or the animals, but go ahead and us it. People who dont use it will smell it as soon as they walk into your home. It says I dont clean I just spray.

YUCK!

42. Wow.
I'm wondering why I received your comments and not everyone who posted that they use this product. But, to answer your questions:

Yes, I let my dog out. I also bath her and have her groomed.

The reason it smells mildewy around our home is because we live in a humid environment which sits above a wetland preserve. No matter how much I clean, in the middle of the hot-humid summer months mold/mildew smells invade my home. Well, that and the stockyard that is 1/2 mile south of my home, on the days that the wind is right and my windows are open my home is full of the smell of several pigs out in the mud and the muck of the yard. Maybe if I cleaned more the pigs wouldn't smell so bad?

19. Its like a christmas tree mirror hanging thing to cover dirty diapers in the back seat.
maybe you need to clean a little more. We have 4 cats (mostly indoor) and a large dog, we wont use corporate chemicals to trick the nose into thinking poop dont stink.

But they wont mind if you spray that chemical over everything you have, every day every week, and so on.

It smells as if you put some rose petals in your linen closet or sprinkled them around. Very light. Sort of like a June day. I like it.

Febreze actually does what it says it does, it actually elimnates odors. Damnifno how it does it, but it does work. The other stuff I used is Ozium, it actually kills odors too.

33. Cinnamon Works For Me
Take a cinnamon stick and break it into 3 or 4 pieces and put into a sauce pan of simmering water. It has a really pleasant smell without all the chemicals. Add lemon or orange zest too if you like.

Edited on Wed May-23-07 07:19 AM by dropkickpa
Make me real sick, puking, itchy, hives, coughing, dizzy, I even passed out once!! That shit is poison!! Febreeze it the biggest offender, I damn near choked to death when my mom used that shit once, me and my kid had to go stay with a friend for several days after she did a number on the stinky dog couch (this is when we still lived there). I scrub my floors and hand wash anything else that won't fit in the washing machine. A bucket with warm soapy water and a scrub brush work just fine on the couch, and I don't want to die afterwards. I air out clothes by hanging them up by an open window. No stink!!

35. I use fabreeze on clothes
especially on dry-clean only stuff that I want to get another wear out of before spending the money to clean it, and especially on my sports bras (I only have 2 so I wear them more than once between washings and I hose them down w/ Fabreeze when I've worn them and I want to wear them again before I put them in the washer).

I keep my house pretty clean, but sometimes I just like to freshen up the place, I'll sometimes spray the curtains or the chairs and open up all the windows.

41. I use natural in the house
baking apples and such make it smell great.

But I will admit-Febreeze is great for use in the car. Whenever I vacuum I use a bit of baking soda on the seats and the rugs for the smell but for day to day I might spray a bit of Febreeze to keep it smelling not so trapped.
