we had lawn seats at an outdoor pavilion venue, back in 1973...
They did the whole Meddle album and then took a break and came out and performed Dark Side...

God, sorry, just can't do it. Umma Gumma, Dark Side, Animals, those three probably hold more meaning for me than the rest.

4. I'm the only person who likes The Final Cut |
|
And apparently I'm the only one who bought it. Sure, it's uneven, and it's really Waters' first solo album, but there's some great stuff on there. The Hero's Return is fecking wonderful. For anyone who didn't catch it, the character in the Hero's Return is a more fully fleshed-out portrait of The Teacher from The Wall.
And even now part of me flies over Dresden at angels one-five Though they'll never fathom it, behind my sarcasm desperate memories lie
Plus it rocks. One of the best riffs Waters ever wrote.

All I know is a couple of songs. I'm going to make a note to myself to give the album a listen.

35. I finally listened to "The Final Cut" last night |
|
Better than I expected. I guess the reason it isn't well-known is that there's no songs that are especially radio-friendly; despite a great riff, "Not Now John"'s lyrics, are, let's just say, not suitable for general audiences ;)

7. gotta go with Dark Side... |
|
the first time I ever did acid, I sat on the floor with a speaker on either side of my head and listened to that and "Diamond Dogs" for about 6 hours, watching the music flow out of the speakers.
Ah, to be 13 again....

|
Lots of good memories come back when I hear songs from that album 'The Wall' just never seemed to come up to the standard 'Dark Side of the Moon' laid down.

I can remember going to an acid party, where nothing but black lights lit the whole house. Everyone painted their face with murine, which has a really cool effect under black lights, and we played "Dark Side" over and over again. It was a religious experience. Man, those were the days.

between Meddle, Animals and The Wall, but went with The Wall for its breadth and the fact that's the only one currently represented on my iPod. Course, Echoes and one or two from Animals probably would be if they didn't each take up a quarter of its memory.

DSOTM is fantastic, and I guess could claim the position, but there are more songs on The Wall that I like. On the other hand, DSOTM is meant to be played as one piece more than the Wall. Still, I like The Wall better

My preference is for psychedelic early Floyd, and this is the key album for that (even if it doesn't have "Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun" on it).

25. Dark Side of the Moon |
|
It's called their masterpiece for a reason. It was ahead of its time and has aged well in 35 years, compared to its contemporaries.
"Wish You Were Here" isn't far behind, and "Animals" is their most underrated work.
Of course, I love them all, from Syd Barrett's era to now. I think all the pissing contests about Barrett vs. Waters vs. Gilmour are a waste of time. Pink Floyd is like a jewel, with each incarnation held to the light revealing different colors and dimensions.
Honorable mention: "Obscured By Clouds". If "Animals" is their most underrated, "Obscured" is their most overlooked.

26. Personally speaking, I think Animals is their best album |
|
If they had made The Wall 5 years earlier, or 10 years later, it would have been a much better album. As much as I love it, it sticks out as the only Floyd album that was influenced by the musical and technological trends of the time; which trends were rather shitty.
I love the album, but every time I listen to it I think "Oh, that came out in 1980". None of their other albums give me such a precise sense of time of creation. And that's not a compliment, at all.
If they'd made it in 1975 or 1990, it would have been totally killer.

My favorite songs by the Pink Floyd are off of the Wall. Unfortunately that album has too much filler, even for a concept album. WYWH is the most cohesive effort in my opinion.

A couple a months ago, I was driving behind an 18-wheeler which had some interesting messages painted on its rear. On the truck's left rear, it said, "Wish you were here"; on the right, "A momentary lapse of reason".
