My 13 yr old son has lost 3 teeth since Friday....2 of them just last night |
|
He's had 6 baby teeth that have been loose forever, but the gums haven't been letting them go, for some weird reason. It's like they're growing up around the bottoms of the teeth. The dentist recently suggested having all 6 of them pulled and we've got the appt scheduled for that to happen early next month b/c they're making his underneath adult teeth come in all funky.
In the meantime, though, he's lost 3 of the 6 teeth he needs to get pulled....just in the past few days.
His 10 yr old sister is waaay ahead of him in the tooth-losing dept. Funny.
It's so interesting to me how kids are on their own schedule....and there's nothing we can do to speed it up, except be patient and trust it'll all work out.
I think that's a good thing, don't you? :7

Eating taffy. Someone gave some out to the children at our church that Sunday . Luckily, I realized the tooth loss and spit the tooth out. Then I got another piece of taffy and ate some more until... It's something to try. Maybe he won't have to have any of them pulled.

he lost the first one on Friday night eating a brownie. :D
with every tooth he's lost, he lets me know that's less money we'll have to pay the dentist and consequently, in his mind anyway, MORE money he deserves from the "tooth fairy".

I didn't know that occurred. His dentist told me that the root of the baby teeth gets absorbed into the new tooth, which I thought was pretty cool.
on eidt, he was 10

that's trippy.
I had to have an extra tooth pulled when I was about 7 yrs old. I found out later it's called a "witch's tooth", appropriately enough. :D It was behind my upper front two teeth. Weird, huh?
On the other hand, I wasn't born with lower wisdom teeth, only uppers and I had them extracted just last year, as a matter of fact. They were already erupted, so it was no big deal. I kept them and lemme tell ya, they are some big-ass teeth! LOL.

I think that's what irritates me most about the current trend in teaching our kids. It leaves no room for the kid who excels in one subject in 3rd grade, and will catch up in another area in a few years.

we all develop on our own schedules...and it's important to honor that. We live in such a fast-paced culture which is always expecting the next, new and improved thing. We tend to lose track of the importance of slooowing down, taking a breath and recognizing where we've been and how we've gotten here before we move on to the next stage.
I feel really strongly that it's vital to teach our kids the value of honoring the transitions of our lives in conscious ways.

12. LOL, he's kinda past that stage, but we go through the motions |
|
he's been reminding me with each tooth that comes out that it's one less chunk of change we'll have to pay the dentist and thus he's consequently deserving of even MORE money from the "tooth fairy". :eyes: Yeah right, buddy. Nice try.
