Monday, May 21, 2007 — With Screened Out: Gay Images in Film, Turner Classic Movies will become the latest network to celebrate June as Gay Pride Month with a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender-focused slate of programming. TCM joins networks such as Sundance, IFC and Showtime that present programs in recognition of Pride Month. Over eight separate days in June, TCM will air more than 40 classic films with coded or overt LGBT content from the earliest days of cinema to just before the Stonewall riots of 1969.
Veteran TCM host Robert Osborne and film historian Richard Barrios will provide commentary on the films, which are scheduled to air every Monday and Wednesday night, beginning June 4 at 8pm ET/PT. Barrios is the author of the literary examination of LGBT cinematic history, Screened Out: Playing Gay in Hollywood from Edison to Stonewall. Also adding to their perspective will be out columnist Michael Musto, Philadelphia screenwriter Ron Nyswaner, filmmaker Charles Busch, and actors Alan Cumming and Tab Hunter.
