High Weirdness in L.A.
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 10:14 PM by Champion_Jack
So, I'm waiting at a stop light in the west valley. Rosco and DeSoto to be exact. I'm in one of the two left turn lanes. I have been dutifully dispatched to procure a loaf of French bread, some wine and potatoes.
Big deal eh? If it weren't for the late, rush hour, Kamikaze L.A. traffic it would be a breeze.
Suddenly I hear a siren approaching fast from the north. It's coming up fast right behind me and naturally my right foot grinds a little harder on the brake. After all, I don't want to impede an emergency vehicle do I?

As I'm fiddling with the radio, I see a cop car race past, but, not just any cop car, one of the new stealth, no cherry cop cars. He's followed closely by several black SUV's. Big ones, with red and blue lights mounted in the rear quarter panels. The First SUV does one of those skid maneuvers into the middle of the intersection blocking it from the east and west. Then, 6 other giant, black SUV's roar past me headed south
towards the 101.

Is Darth Cheney in town?

2. Re Darth - yes he is. But where would he be going to & from?
not that I find the Valley undesirable or anything, just, why would anyone be there? Or going through there to elsewhere?

4. LA is always wierd.
One time back in the Jurassic, I was jogging down the middle strip on Santa Monica Boulevard where the RR used to be. I was in front of the Mormon temple when an ostentatious motorcade passed me. I became alerted when I saw the union jack on the limo, and I was able to see inside it, (no tinted windows then). So lo and behold, quess who it was, Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden, when she was married to him. Well we knew they were coming to town to visit then for some trade thing, but this wasn't the usual route dignitaries took, so they sneaked them into wherever they were taking them via a route that the press hadn't been alerted to.

Guess what I didn't curtsy.

8. The one time I was in LA it was everything I dreamed, and more
1. We walked up a hill near my bf's brother's home in Silver Lake to get a better look at the Hollywood sign, and a ghostly white man wearing black, black sunglasses came out on his balcony and said "Are you the people from Chicago? God bless you."
2. It was Passover/Easter weekend, and we were on Melrose Ave. We were passed by model-handsome identical twins wearing identical (probably Armani) suits, and yamulkas.
3. While my bf was shaking dust out of his clothes outside of the house, a big man with an ice-pick scar in his forehead appeared out of nowhere. "Stop that, its making too much noise!" he said. My bf laughed, and the man growled "It isn't funny!" We ran around the house frantically locking doors and windows after that.
4. On Sunset Strip one night, stuck in traffic, we watched a woman in a parking lot strip her motorcycle gear off down to her teeny tiny underwear and change in to an evening gown, without seeming at all perturbed about the crowd gathered to watch.

And many many more great weird memories...

11. Oh yeah. I too visited L.A. once for a week
and, if you are from Chicago, or any city back East or in Europe for that matter, it's nothing like what you conceptualize 'city' to be. All I can say is, after visiting L.A. I understand Bladerunner a lot better.
