How money hungry would you have to be to do this to your dead spouse?

I guess Courtney Love needs a new Gucci bag. :eyes: She's sold rights to use Kurt Cobain's image in a new Doc Marten's campaign, which also features other dead rockers like:

Joey Ramone:

Sid Vicious:

And Joe Strummer:

(Can't find a smiley to appropriately convey my sentiments about this. I guess this one :eyes: will do.)

That's in absolute bad taste.

2. Looks like Doc Marten's finally kicked the shark
Even the poseurs wouldn't fall for that.

when their shoes started getting crappier and falling apart.

19. Oh, I don't doubt that
I've never cared for them. I'm sure they were good back "in the day" but fell to corporate greed in the 90s just like every other company in the Western Hemisphere.

22. when I liked them more, I could not afford them
and always found it kind of ironic that expensive boots were "punk uniform" so to speak. I usually bought my boots at Sears or Army Surplus. But I do have friends who wore them for years, and the quality definitely went down a few years ago. I would assume from outsourcing, which is also ironic considering the pro-labor stance of most of their target audience, but is a guess.

3. Funny thing is, I don't think ANY of those guys even wore Docs
In all the pics of Sid and Joey I've seen, they've worn Converse All-Stars (same with Kurt, too, for that matter). Joe I'm not so sure about, but my guess would be brothel creepers or some such thing, as he had quite a knack for the rockabilly thing (used to dress a bit like Elvis in the 101ers, his pre-Clash band).

Either way, the campaign sucks. And is bordering on tasteless.

30. No prob. I was just wearing mine yesterday
A pair of black, slightly faded and tattered pair of hi-top All-Stars, much like the ones said punk rockers wore back in the day.

/ In the interest of full disclosure, I have also owned several pairs of Docs over the years, and still have a pair of 10-eyelet boots I bought when I lived in the UK in 1991. I still wear them on occassion, but most of the time wear a pair of ankle-high "Beetle boot"-type boots these days.

Crass, crude, no talent, headline grabbing, self-destructive, media whore.

And those are her good points....:hi:

6. I usually don't crab about it when bands sell out to commercials...
...but when they're appropriated into "endorsing" something after they fucking DIE, that's mighty irritating. :nuke:

This could only have been worse if it were Ian Curtis' feet dangling inches from the floor, clad in photoshopped-on Docs. :eyes:

But, I have notoriously bad taste. I'm a rabid follower of the John Water's Church of Filth. There's no bad taste, only bad people. }(

Stop now. I'm afraid some idiot will read this and, after googling who Ian Curtis is, will think it sounds like a great idea.

29. ooooo errrrr!
Even better considering the Curtis biopic "Control" just got released at Cannes, and it was the 27th anniversary of his death a week ago....

Or, in the words of Barney Sumner at one of the first New Order gigs (when they were still a trio), after he was asked where his band's singer was:

"Eh, he's hanging around in the kitchen somewhere"

(As recounted in the book "An Ideal for Living")

12. Gucci bag? Courtney's not buying a Gucci bag with that money...
...unless "Gucci bag" is a new slang term for smack. As for the rest, ugh, wasn't it Strummer that sang the line turning rebellion into money in "White Man in Hammersmith Palais?" How disgustingly true.

25. I never could afford Docs.
I bought mine from the local Army Surplus, run by a Vietnam vet w/ an extreme case of PTSD. He gave them to me and then asked me if it was "payment enough, Mai?"

Damn, I was too stupid to understand what he was talking about.

Anyway, this idea sucks.

34. It's particularly sad that they used these four rock stars, given that each of them...
was memorably anti-advertising, anti-commercialization.

To quote Strummer:

In the gleaming corridors of the 51st floor
The money can be made if you really want some more
Executive decision-a clinical precision
Jumping from the windows-filled with indecision

I get good advice from the advertising world
Treat me nice says the party girl
Koke adds life where there isnt any
So freeze, man, freeze
