and let us not forget Jim Jones, too. It was his anniversary lately, so let's keep in the loop of scam artists and loonies.

21. Do a google search on "cold reading"
Edited on Sat Jan-17-04 02:19 AM by Dookus
and you'll see that Ms. Browne does nothing more than what charlatans have done for hundreds of years. Anybody with a little bit of training can replicate her "act".

10. Well if you want her .02 cents,
She was on Montel the first week of January, and gave her predictions for this coming year.

Nomination goes to... Kerry.

Election goes to .... Bush, and the audience groaned.

I was going to mention this earlier, but figured everyone would think I was ready for the padded room....lol :)

12. She predicted Bradley would be elected president...
... by a wide margin in 2000. She made about 20 other predictions at the same time, which she put in writing in one of her books, none of which came true. Great big zero.

13. My Mom buys her books, she picked Gore
but I never heard that before, about Bradley

and When she went back to Montel after the election, he was like "Whats up"

And she said he did win the election, and made a nasty comment about the electoral college..lol

14. Back in 2000 there was going to be a huge development
in curing cancer... not a small treatment for form of cancer - a major medical breakthrough.

Just happened to catch the Montel show the day she was doing her predictions.

15. In those type things medical breakthroughs
There has been a problem with funding, where she thinks they find this and BAM they figure it out, well I guess she didn't factor in the funding that it cost. Why develop a drug for cancer when viagra was so important. And any number of stupid things that people are buying straight from the tv, and running to the Dr.'s and saying, I have to have this,

Ok, making excuses...but doesn't that make sense.

20. HA HA HA! Well said. this lady is a scam artist, no more
i don't discount the ability of some people to foresee the future and know what's gonna happen, and who are in tune.

But those people don't sell their talents on TV to unwitting people with a desperate need to adjust their authority to be in tune instead with some "star path" or whateevr the clever psychic method du jour is.

For those of you who believe in this stuff, please, go for it, and I won't disparage you. But I WILL disparage those criminals who take advantage of people who are looking for answers.

23. still waiting
She took James Randi up on his million dollar challenge years ago, live on Larry King. Never called him after that. We're all waiting, Sylvia.

24. Yep!
She can make a cool million, AND prove that psychic abilities exist. All she has to do is agree to a test that both she and Randi think is fair and go for it.

She never has. She never will.

25. I have one of her books
and get this: My mother, the Mormon lady - if ever there was a religion that does not encourage this behavior and if ever there was a person known for her dislike of frumpy know-it-alls with grating voices - seems to want to believe Sylvia Browne. I've been wondering if she's a wingnut or it's the association with Montel, whose self-righteousness must outweigh his blackness in my mother's mind.

27. exactly...
I really wish more people understood how simple it is to do what she does. It's all based on people's penchant for remembering the hits and forgetting the misses.

Also, the subjects of a cold reading give away a lot more information than they think they're giving. Any skilled person can learn to read the body language, expressions, etc. of a subject to determine if they're on the right track.

28. I saw her on TV in Seattle Feb. 27, 2001
She said absolutely nothing about the major earthquake we would have the next day. I had previously wanted to believe her, but that shook (pun intended) any faith I could have.
