What to expect...I took a softball to the face tonight...

I played shortstop in a slow pitch league softball game this evening. Never cared for playing the infield that much as a kid and now I remember why. LOL

Either way, ball took a bounce, I got (what I thought was) a pretty good gauge on where the 2nd hop would take it, but it bounced differently and wound up hitting me just below my right eye. Interestingly enough, what pissed me off the most is that I didn't make the play at third base like I was planning to, but I am getting off on a tangent. :)

So I've got this "golf ball sized" (golf ball is submerged in my face and only the outer area of one side is visible) swell under my eye. Doesn't really hurt that much. Just annoying. May hurt tomorrow, I don't know.

The movie lover in me wants to say, "cut me Mick, just cut me" but the somewhat rational thinking me wants to just leave it alone. I've done the ice thing and reduced the swelling as much as possible.

What's the best way to take care of it from here and what should I expect from here on out? Am I likely looking at a shiner (black eye)? Not trying to sound like a macho man or anything but pain really doesn't bother me that much, but I'm curious what to expect and how to take care of this injury. Any advice?

No, I can see fine. No, I do not have a head ache. It's a minor injury. It's just one I've never had before. :)

4. Do NOT lance it.

Continue with the ice, and take some ibuprofen or naproxen for swelling. It will go down in a couple of days. And, yes, you're probably going to have a shiner.

The only thing I'd be worried about if I were you is eye damage...and if you can see fine, and aren't seeing floaters or anything, then I'd not rush to the ER or anything.

23. As strange as this may sound...

...I think my $9.00 plastic sunglasses helped me prevent any eye damage. Perhaps the bill of my ball cap as well. I would equate it to taking a sucker punch to the jaw (something I have experienced) but just a little higher. My eye, itself, is fine. I've just never had any swelling on my face before, and as "un-manly" as this may make me sound, I've never had a shiner before. :)

I'm not worried, I was more or less just curious as to what to expect...hence the subject re-do. :)

on it that never went away so now one side of my face almost hase nice cheekbones and the other side is still flat as can be. LOL
