Popeye Turns 75

Chester-AP- The world might know him as a famous Sailor Man, but to the people of Chester, Popeye is just another native son.

Tomorrow is the 75th anniversary of the first day Popeye appeared on a comic strip. Chester native Elzie Segar first drew the macho mariner for his other strip, called Thimble Theater, in 1929.

1. I've been to Chester

and have seen the bronze Popeye statue, which is by the bridge over the Mississippi River.

3. No. The copyright keeps getting extended.

At this point I think copyright extends beyond 75 years of the creators death. (
At one time, copyright protections only applied for 11 years after it's public publishing, regardless of the authors mortality.
