It was my first time seeing him live, and it was AMAZING, although I almost got the life squeezed out of me! I got to the venue at 9:45 a.m. and literally stood the rest of the day, as there was no place to sit while waiting in line and the show was general admission. I managed to get front row center and LOVED it until Morrissey threw his shirt into the crowd and I had to spend the next 10 minutes squashed in the melee of people trying to take possession of it. At one point I was gasping for breath. One girl told me she'd gotten a cracked rib at the St. Louis show, but she got the shirt (meaning part of it - no one ever seems to get the whole thing). I was grabbing on too and managed to get a string! Then somehow a second melee started and I ended up fighting over the collar, which I somehow came away with. Light blue Gucci shirt and probably Gucci cologne - smelled delectable. For the record, Morrissey wears a 17 1/2 neck. I tried really hard to shake his hand, but stupid guys with longer arms kept pushing my arm out of the way. One time Morrissey was looking at me and reaching for my hand when the guy next to me (with whom I'd waited all day in line) pushed his hand in front of mine to get the handshake, after already getting two others. I was pissed. By the end of the show guys were getting very aggressive and shoving me to get to the front, and I'm ashamed to say I fought back by pushing, shoving and even gouging a chunk of skin out of a guy's arm when he was getting exceedingly aggressive. I was wearing heavy boots because I knew it'd get physical, which were KILLING ME after standing in them all day. I took them off during the show and was standing on them for a while, but during the shirt melee they managed to walk off. I had to conduct a search for them after the show and finally found them about 20 feet away! A Morrissey show is NOT the place to be if you're not willing to get physical!
The band was terrific, and it was a very high energy show. Morrissey sounded great (at least, from what I heard - the audience insists on singing along with every word!). It was really a treat to see him. I met a nice young man from Mexico City in line and gave him part of the collar. We'll keep in touch. I asked him what Mexicans think of Bush, and he said they hate him for his treatment of immigrants and think he's arrogant and doesn't care.
I wore my BartCop "Worst President Ever" shirt, and when Morrissey came out he saw it and flashed me the "A-OK" symbol. YEA!!! He also changed a lyric from "I Will See You In Far Off Places" from "and if the USA doesn't bomb you" to "and if George W. Bush doesn't kill you." Morrissey ROCKS!!! He sang several of my favorites, including the aforementioned "...Far Off Places," "How Soon Is Now?", "Panic," "Girlfriend In A Coma" and "Everyday Is Like Sunday."
When I got home I discovered that I had a scratch on my face and abrasions on both shoulders (worse on the left). I also have extremely sore arms and ribs from hanging over the barrier, sore legs and dying toes from being shoved in those boots all day. Mr. DTBK said it was like I'd been to Baghdad and back!
