I survived (and I do mean survived) the Morrissey concert in Dallas last night
It was my first time seeing him live, and it was AMAZING, although I almost got the life squeezed out of me! I got to the venue at 9:45 a.m. and literally stood the rest of the day, as there was no place to sit while waiting in line and the show was general admission. I managed to get front row center and LOVED it until Morrissey threw his shirt into the crowd and I had to spend the next 10 minutes squashed in the melee of people trying to take possession of it. At one point I was gasping for breath. One girl told me she'd gotten a cracked rib at the St. Louis show, but she got the shirt (meaning part of it - no one ever seems to get the whole thing). I was grabbing on too and managed to get a string! Then somehow a second melee started and I ended up fighting over the collar, which I somehow came away with. Light blue Gucci shirt and probably Gucci cologne - smelled delectable. For the record, Morrissey wears a 17 1/2 neck. I tried really hard to shake his hand, but stupid guys with longer arms kept pushing my arm out of the way. One time Morrissey was looking at me and reaching for my hand when the guy next to me (with whom I'd waited all day in line) pushed his hand in front of mine to get the handshake, after already getting two others. I was pissed. By the end of the show guys were getting very aggressive and shoving me to get to the front, and I'm ashamed to say I fought back by pushing, shoving and even gouging a chunk of skin out of a guy's arm when he was getting exceedingly aggressive. I was wearing heavy boots because I knew it'd get physical, which were KILLING ME after standing in them all day. I took them off during the show and was standing on them for a while, but during the shirt melee they managed to walk off. I had to conduct a search for them after the show and finally found them about 20 feet away! A Morrissey show is NOT the place to be if you're not willing to get physical!

The band was terrific, and it was a very high energy show. Morrissey sounded great (at least, from what I heard - the audience insists on singing along with every word!). It was really a treat to see him. I met a nice young man from Mexico City in line and gave him part of the collar. We'll keep in touch. I asked him what Mexicans think of Bush, and he said they hate him for his treatment of immigrants and think he's arrogant and doesn't care.

I wore my BartCop "Worst President Ever" shirt, and when Morrissey came out he saw it and flashed me the "A-OK" symbol. YEA!!! He also changed a lyric from "I Will See You In Far Off Places" from "and if the USA doesn't bomb you" to "and if George W. Bush doesn't kill you." Morrissey ROCKS!!! He sang several of my favorites, including the aforementioned "...Far Off Places," "How Soon Is Now?", "Panic," "Girlfriend In A Coma" and "Everyday Is Like Sunday."

When I got home I discovered that I had a scratch on my face and abrasions on both shoulders (worse on the left). I also have extremely sore arms and ribs from hanging over the barrier, sore legs and dying toes from being shoved in those boots all day. Mr. DTBK said it was like I'd been to Baghdad and back!

1. Holey Moley I'm jealous.
Glad you were finally able to see him after being such a fan of his for years and years. Wish I could have been there too. However, after reading your post - instead of being able to sing along with him, I would have been shouting OW, OW, OW! Too bad these show people don't put on concerts geared to specific age groups.
I'd definitely be purchasing a ticket for the "Boomer" show.

:hippie:

4. Awesome. Sounds like a pretty fun night for the most part.
I've been on a bit of a Morrissey/The Smiths kick all week.

6. Morrisey put my fave band back together and I will be grateful
to him forever! I've never been a huge Smiths fan, but Maz (isn't that what they call him?) seems like an incredible human being. Hope you recover from the show!

8. Thanks! Moz is truly a man of his convictions
He's a huge animal rights supporter and isn't afraid to speak his mind. He won't tour Canada because of the government's support of the seal hunt. Someone told me he's even canceled shows if the venue is grilling meat (he's a vegetarian).

7. Sounds awesome!
Concerts can get crazy. I was at a Mighty Mighty Bosstones show back in 2001, where I practically got the crap beat out of me in the pit.
It was SWEET. :D
Love Morrisey, too.

9. I was prepared to do battle
But it got physical really quick once he threw that shirt out. It wasn't my goal to try to get a piece, but my competitiveness kicked in!

20. I don't THINK so
The opportunity for the collar somehow presented itself, and the victory was rather easily won. I was holding onto it over my head and competing against someone behind me, who for some reason let go. I don't think I overpowered this person with my brute strength. Again, I shocked myself by kind of enjoying scratching that guy's arm near the end of the show - he was SO obnoxiously pushy and I had to let him know to BACK THE HELL OFF.

11. I am REALLY REALLY jealous!
What a GREAT concert experience--everything considered.

I am soooo jealous of you!

:hi:

(I have Adam Ant's tee shirt from his concert at the Saenger in New Orleans, circa 1986. I put it in a baggy, because it smelled like cologne. LOL. I still have it in storage in my parents' attic, I think. We bribed security at the venue to us into the orchestral pit, and we were the ONLY PEOPLE in the orchestral pit at that concert. We left with picks, the tee shirt, a couple of drumsticks, and we were able to drink through the whole concert. Band members would come to the edge of the stage and flirt with us. I got to GROPE ADAM ANT! When he ripped off his tee, he walked over to me and gave it to me. My friend threw her panties at him. I mean, she literally took off her panties and threw them at him. He caught them and danced around with them. LOL. Ahhhh..thanks for bringing back great memories of youth!)

16. What a cool story!
I also put Morrissey's collar in a baggie - I've been opening the baggie and sniffing it all day (what a dork, I know).

I did that, too! I was a major Adam Ant dork.

Enjoy your collar. :bounce: :D

12. Bruises and cuts from a Ramones concert or a Joan Jett
concert always made/make me feel soooo good. I don't know why, but they actually seem to feel good when I touch them the day after. I don't know why, but I love it. Congratulations on the shirt score.

We went to Costco today and I didn't put any makeup over the scratch on my face - I wore it as a badge of honor!

21. And HOW MUCH did you pay to suffer this abuse?
It just reminds me why I no longer go to concerts. I'm far too old to put up with all that crap.

I'm so boring now, I much prefer concert DVDs. I can watch 'em whenever I want, I can hear the band, and nobody pushes me around.

22. $39.50
Could have been a lot worse. I was IMing with my sister today and agreed with her that the older we get, the harder it is on our bodies to put up with this stuff (I'm 44). I don't know how the people who follow Morrissey EVERYWHERE manage it. Just one day of standing on my feet for 15 hours and getting pummeled by drunken fools about did me in!

24. I'm so jealous.
Sounds like you had a great time.

And the guy who got aggressive over the handshake is lucky that it wasn't someone like me standing near him instead of you. You were too nice. I would have had him singing soprano before he got his hand too close.

The older I get, the crankier I get. I'd hate to see me at a concert now.
