Truck driver escapes cab fire on I-43
The driver of a semitrailer truck carrying 40,000 pounds of cheese escaped injury this morning when his cab caught fire around 2:40 a.m. on northbound I-43 downtown, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department said this morning.

When firefighters arrived, the cab was fully engulfed in flames, "but the driver was able to get out safely," said Sheriff's Lt. James Novotny.

The trailer holding the cheese was able to be disconnected from the cab, he said.

The blaze shut down two lanes of traffic for about an hour and a half, Novotny said.
