Have any of you tried the South Beach diet? |
|
Does it work?
Eating healthy food and exercising keeps me fit now. I'm thinking ahead to when I'm older and fatter.

1. Is that the one where you eat nothing but Cheezy Poofs? |
|
No, wait, that would be the South Park diet. :silly:

need to use the South Beach or any other diet. You may have to eat a little less or exercise a little more as you get older, but that's all.
Every 6 months or so for the rest of your life, weigh yourself and write it down somewhere handy. If, over a year, you see your weight creeping up by more than 5 pounds, just cut back a little bit or add some more exercise and melt that away. You will then never have a problem with weight.
Wish I had followed my own advice when I was younger. . .

my wife and I are looking into it ourselves. The intention is to kick start ourselves, and yes change our diet forever, and get into more excercise. Overall though I lost 70 punds way back in 1991 and I was able to easily maintain it over 10 years by eating as well as I could. Kept eating after 7 pm down to nothing and if anything, a little light popcorn with no butter. I was also able to eat junk food on occaision. But it was very occaisional, and when I noticed my jeans getting lightly taught around my wasit I would simply step back the calorie intake, not significantly, just slightly, and step up my cardio program at the gym. I would drop this extra punds within 2 weeks and be back to the way I was.

By then we'll know even more about nutrition. Heck, we already know far more than what you can tell from reading a tome about the South Beach diet, a brand which offer nutritional science that's about five years old now. Which is, at least, far ahead of Atkins, but nonetheless. The problem with these brands is that they are behind reality by the time they hit market, and they don't change with the science, with the knowledge that accumulates and is accumulating faster as time goes on.
Nevermind that its time to get beyond the question of "does it work?" There are tons of ways to lose weight. What's more important is the development of lifetime habits that diminish one's likelihood of various illnesses over time. These diets don't address this holistically, though they are now trying to feign it in a very superficial manner.

6. This is the diet where you can't eat fruits, carbs, or sugar |
|
for the first 2 weeks, then you start adding fruits and stuff to your diet. I heard its more of a life-long thing than a "quick fix". And its supposed to be healthier and more balanced than Atkins.
