Brewers for sale! Hope reigns anew in Milwaukee!
Goodbye Selig and company! Woo hoo!

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brew/jan04/200437.asp

"The Milwaukee Brewers announced Friday that they were putting the franchise up for sale, signaling a new era for professional baseball in Milwaukee and the end of Selig family ownership in the team.

The Brewers have the longest tenured ownership in major-league baseball. Commissioner Bud Selig has owned a share of the Brewers since 1970, when an organization led by Selig and Edmund Fitzgerald rescued the faltering Seattle Pilots from bankruptcy court and moved them to Milwaukee.

The announcement was made at a late afternoon news conference at Miller Park that was called on short notice. The news was announced by Wendy Selig-Prieb, Selig's daughter and chairman of the team's board of directors. She was accompanied by Michael Grebe, a member of the team's board of directors and a longtime adviser to ownership.

In their remarks, both went to great lengths to reassure the community that professional baseball was secure in Milwaukee."

WOO HOO!

2. The community of Milwaukee should buy them
so that, like with the Packers, WI will continue to be a beacon of hope and progressive ideas, which includes owning your own sports teams as a community.

That would be cool.

Especially after the brewers screwed (as I understand it) the taxpayers out of money for their new "Miller" park.

3. Local estimate is to improve team would take 50 million ABOVE
the purchase price.

Wasn't Tom Clancy looking to buy a team in Minnesota a few years ago?
It would be cool, because

Having the community buy the B-team would be "The Sum of All Fears,"
All I want is for Selig family to pay for the stadium like they promised.

5. I seem to remeber
Bob Costas saying that the best food in Major League Baseball could be found in Milwaukee on an episode of Late Night With Conan O'Brian.

7. Well, it's definitely better than the Aramark crap you get at many parks.
But Safeco Field takes best food in baseball, hands down. All local vendors, with an incredible variety of food and drink.

6. If I bought the Brewers....
First off, anyone in the front office who so much as smiled at any of the Selgs would be shitcanned.

Then I'd hang the Seligs in effigy out in the Right Center Field stands.

If a Brewers home run ball would hit one of these effigies, we'd draw a ticket stub and the person sitting there would win something cool.
