The Corporation- a must see documentary |
|
The Corporation has lit a fire under my butt. I've been renting documentaries for the last several weekends from the local Blockbuster and somehow I kept looking at that flick and kept deciding to get something else. Well, after I had rented just about every documentary they had, except for the wrestling ones, I finally checked it out. It is by far the most important documentary I have ever seen. I'm buying my own copy. Here's the blurb from the back of the DVD rental:
"In this acclaimed documentary from the co-director of Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, 40 corporate insiders and critics- incuding Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky, No Logo author Naomi Klein and Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman- explore the nature and spectacular rise of the most pervasive institution of our time. Combining analysis with footage from advertising, television news and industrial films, The Corporation is an entertaining and provocative look at the inner workings, curious history, controversial impacts and possible futures of the modern global conglomerate."
Winner of 23 international awards including the Sundance World Cinema-Documentary Audience Award.
Check it out. You might be surprised and you will not be disappointed.
P.S. Howard Zinn is in there, too.

2. if you really want to stir things up -- donate a copy to your local library! |
|
I did this a couple of years ago (via a friendly librarian who is very progressive), and since then it's barely been on the shelf -- the waiting list to see it was several dozen people long.

Demand for the movie is still high. The distributor that I bought my copy from and that the film makers work through is "temporarily out of stock." :)

7. it wasn't until after I saw the movie credits that I realized I knew one of the people ... |
|
... involved in making the film (Gil Yaron). I went to college with him, way back!

On the topic of good documentaries, if you haven't seen it, rent The Fog Of War.

5. Yes, that's one of the one I've seen over the last couple of weekends |
|
And I recommend it as well. I was surprised to see that McNamara was still alive and even more so at his dire confessional.
