After 2 1/2 years, and almost 14,000 post, I've broken a DU vow I made to myself. |
|
(No, not the "be a drunken grumpybutt" vow- I think I'm still maintaining that one fairly well.)
I swore to myself that, no matter what, I would never use the "ignore" feature.
I said to myself, "Dick, even if you never agree with a particular person on any issue, you need to at least listen to what they have to say. To do otherwise would be to be less than intellectually open, less than the ideal of DICK that you strive towards."
I still think that's true, you know. This really -DOES- mean that I am less than "completely intellectually open". I consider this a personal failure. I set a standard for myself that I am unable to live up to any longer.
Not the first time- not likely to be the last.
It sucks being imperfect.

wait a few weeks, then take them off ignore. By then, the anger will have faded, and you won't think about it any more. I've never had anyone on ignore more than a month or so.

4. That's the thing- I'm not angry. |
|
I'm WEARY. I'm TIRED. I'm just WORN DOWN from the same useless, pointless, masochistic attempts at "discussion" with people who aren't interested in LISTENING.
People who make me ANGRY have at least managed to capture my interest, you know? They aren't likely to get "ignored" any time soon.
No, I think my new "ignore list" is gonna have its hands full with the people who make me SAD.
That's not really the way I had ever imagined it. But, life is full of surprises, so I'm told.

yeah, I can understand that. One of the main reasons I post only in the Lounge and in Groups. I like to hear differing opinons as much as the next person, more so even, but only when the other person wants to listen to you as well. I feel for you

Get drunk and don't worry about those idiots :D

2. I wish I could say that was the only DU vow I've broken... |
|
..you're a better person than I!!
My point? Using the ignore feature is not a bad thing.... that's what it's there for. And it's better than losing one's sanity...completely.

3. I have four on my list |
|
For a long time I had none, but there is really no point listening to somebody, or trying to reason with them, when they are not listening to you, just replying with one line snarky strawmen that they pull out of their a$$. Kinda funny, that two of them were not even arguing with me. I just read a post and did not like the attitude.
It's not that bad being imperfect though. I notice that most people manage to live with it.

5. Well, if "most people" manage to live with it.... |
|
...then I suppose I'll find a way to do so as well.
Not that I've ever imagined I'm really "perfect" overall... I thought I had set the bar low enough that I could be "perfect" in that one tiny, insignificant way.
There's probably some sort of lesson in that. I'm gonna sleep on it before I even attempt to grasp it.
Goodnight DU! :hi:

7. that's the trouble with bars |

wherever they are set seems to be difficult to reach. The other question is, 'what are words for?' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6CunFiE0Csfrom the right person, with the right inspiration, they can carry you over the slings and arrows of the confederacy of snipe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbFEnoITiWE&mode=related&search=

8. Don't worry about it... |

I thought I would never put anybody on ignore either. I now have two. Because I got tired of hearing the same exact bullshit arguments made over and over and over again even in different threads. I had to do it because just looking at their comments was enough to make me mad, and I need to keep calm. These are two nitwits who will never ever change their minds. Fortunately there are enough other posters who now recognize these particular bs artists for what they are that me having to dog them is no longer really necessary.:hi:

9. well you are also discounting that some of us put people on ignore due to personal issues |
|
so its not a question of intellectual openness.
