Is anyone else here allergic to pot?
Edited on Tue May-29-07 02:54 AM by BlueIris
Just asking. I totally am. Found out early in life, (accidentally) and I guess that's a good thing since even a tiny bit did horrible things to me (just say no, kids). Incidentally, my father has the same allergy, which gives us at least one thing in common.

1. I suggest an extensive program of testing for this allergy.

2. Not allergic to it, but hate the smell.
Used to like it (used to smoke it), but any more, the smell of it nauseates me.

3. It did horrible things to me a couple of times
But I've always believed that was because of something that was in it — one time, particularly; I suspected it was laced with crystal meth.

I really don't know how an allergy to weed would manifest.

4. yeah. it makes my eyes really red
and my mouth really dry

and I feel really weird, kind of disoriented and mildly euphoric

and it gives me these weird cravings for food

It took me about 20 years to figure out that I was allergic

11. Dude, pot is a plant
lots of people allergic to LOTS of plants. Ragweed, grass pollen, mango sap, trees, peanuts, poison ivy (people who are severely allergic to poison ivy can react if it's being burned nearby, the wind is blowing wrong, etc).

14. No, I don't think so.
My wife suffers allergies from molds and grasses, which are proteinless as well. I suspect that people can have allergies from any pollen producing plants. Also, pot is often shipped pretty great distances, over time before reaching the user. I imagine all kinks of molds and fungi can develop during this time. Once picked, the plant's natural defenses to molds an dfungi are gone, so in a truck or box or whatever, it may pick up other things that cause reactions.

9. I was a pretty hardcore druggie during my salad days...
...but I could never handle pot. Give me pills, powders or tabs of any shape or hue and I'd swing the day away, as happy a stoner as you've ever seen float past. But one whiff of a spliff and I'd turn into a slavering paranoid maniac, convinced that everyone I saw was plotting my imminent death...or worse.

Not fun.

10. I sister was to an extent ...
her hands would break out in hives if it was low grade weed, but she was OK if it was "good shit". She was a great pot-meter.

12. Can't use it, but it's my lungs that are the problem.
I hack up mucus for a week or two afterward, so I've got no interest anymore.

13. Yeah, it seemed to do some strange things to me
like make me lose track of time
feel kind of lazy
made my eyes really red sometimes if it was potent
made me cough a lot when I smoked it from a bong
Sometimes made me laugh without really any good reason :D

I dunno, it is a terrible allergy I guess  I would think that desensitization would be a good place to start

find a good allergist

22. Not allergic, but I can't stand the smell.
Don't smoke it, but wish I could, making tea out of it isn't near as good for pain as smoking it is.

23. Try a vaporizer
http://www.marijuanavaporizer.com/

Maybe you already have, I don't know, but in case you're not familiar with vaporizers, it's a way of smoking it without actually inhaling any smoke. I've used 'em, and they work great.

24. A place in our town has them. I'd rather just drink the tea than pay the 400 bux
for the vaporizer. But thanks for the advice anyway.

25. $99 on the website I listed above
Still not cheap I know, so if you don't want to, I understand. But that's a lot cheaper than $400.

27. I don't know if I would say allergic.
But I hate smoking it. I have very bad reactions (mental) to it and have never found it to be fun. My sister is the same way.

28. YES. Cats, too.
It was a developed allergy. I was a cat owner, for instance, until just a few years ago, when I developed a severe allergy to felines. When I go to a cat owner's house, I need to be warned in advance, and even then it just maintains the swelling to a drivable low. Thirty years I owned cats, and then one day ... POOF!

Pot has almost the same reaction, these days. I can tell you about Dead shows and crazy-ass experiences, and then, one day about five years ago, POOF! Being in the same room for a prolonged period not only brings about feelings of depression, but causes my eyes, nose, and throat to swell up. As in, "Hospitalization because I can't breathe." Haven't used in years.

Scary thing is, I can still say with a reasonable confidence that, "I've smoked more weed than most people reading this ever will." Statistics, and such.

Sobriety is better in the long run, anyway.
