My theory: Joe Smith let the Giants score in the top of the 12th just so the Mets could come back and beat Armando Benitez in the bottom of the 12th!!!! :P What a game...a pitcher's duel, 2 balks in one inning and not one but two home runs by Carlos Delgado (including the walk-off).

Games like that are what make baseball so great...unless of course if you are a Giants fan.

Did I mention that I love beating Benitez?

That man has caused me to curse and swear more than any other baseball player possibly ever...so a little karmic retribution is gooooood!

4. Ahhh,
Thanks for the memories.

I'm sure the swelling on my forehead from banging my head on my desk will go down in a day or two. :banghead:

5. I was listening
and thinking, the next time Benitez is pitching and Davidson or Marsh has the plate, there aren't likely to be many called strikes. :D

You hear how the Dodgers beat the Cubs on Sunday? Tied 1-1, Guzman walks Martinez, leading off the bottom of the 11th. Then he walks Betemit. Martinez gets caught leaning off second, Barrett throws behind him and Martinez scoots it for third. Cubs bring in Marmol, who intentionally walks Furcal, then hits Pierre, forcing home Martinez.

Thinking of Piniella's bursting brain vessel was almost as good as the win. :D

6. It's worth it to watch the Cubs for that reason alone...
seriously the Cubs + Sweet Lou is one dangerous combination.

But, did you hear who's set to become the all-time leader among managers getting chased?

Bobby Cox.

I heard that Saturday or Sunday and I thought, well, okay, he's been around forever. Who's he gonna pass? Durocher? Weaver? Martin?

Nope. John McGraw.

Cox has been dumped 130 times. McGraw was chased 131; Durocher 97; Weaver 95; Martin only 45. Piniella's ahead of Martin with 58.

I figured Weaver got dumped that many times in a single season. :D

8. I heard that too and I was quite surprised by it
but I guess it's not too far fetched considering he was the reason why the 1904 WS was never played. Only a real hot head could do something like that

9. I'd say that was one part fear, one part arrogance
"Little Napoleon" was probably frightened at the prospect of losing to an "inferior" AL club.

Silly boy. The AL didn't become inferior until the '70s. :P
