I think I may qualify as one of DU's geekiest!
If this does not qualify me for being one of the geekiest members on DU, I don’t know what else could.

But, I told my wife that when we moved about four years ago into our old house, I never totally felt at home in our new house.

However, we have only moved three months ago into our new house and I already am starting to feel more “settled” in our new house. The reason I feel more settled in our new house, I continued, is because I finally got around to unpacking my Warhammer miniatures, which I never did at our old house. Here is one my groups of night goblins.

For those of you not into Warhammer, it is a war game played between fantasy armies – humans, elves, dwarves, orcs & goblins, demons, beastmen, undead, and others. Most of the “soldiers” in these fantasy armies are a bit over 1”, or 25-28mm, tall. Some figures, like dragons, ogres, giants, etc, are taller, though.

Just the fact that I have hundreds of unpacked little soldiers all lined up on some old bookcases in our basement makes me feel like we might stick around this house for a while and more “settled” into the house.

Maybe not geek hall of fame material, but certainly quite geeky.

5. You must have been very popular
at the gaming tables, being a "chick" and all. Well, maybe a few gamers might have been scared of you as well.

2. I did Warhammer 40K for many years
but gave it up after I moved and couldnt find any new players. A highly addictive hobby, though.

Nice paint jobs on those goblins!

Heres one of my Eldar Farseers:

3. Nice paint job
I got into Warhammer Fantasy as an offshoot to D&D - and the fantasy figures could double as the bad guys or the town watch or whatnot. I'm kind of lost when it comes to 40K, other than knowing most of the fantasy races have 40K counterparts - High Elves=Eldar, Dark Elves=Dark Eldar, Orcs = Orks, etc.

Here is the general of my Empire army - I had somebody who is a way better painter than me paint him up.

9. another nice paint job!
whoever did that really knows his inks and dry brushing.

I started with the WH fantasy, by way of D&D. But I moved on to 40K when I was in the Army - a lot more people played it, and the small unit tactics were very familiar.

40K is basically just fantasy with guns and modern weapons, and the units are smaller. A squad might be 5-10 figures max, where fantasy units would be 20-40. so it was a lot cheaper, too, with fewer figures.

10. I see
I just don't have the time to learn yet another game, either. And, with three big armies (Empire, Dwarves & Orcs/Goblins) I don't have enough money to invest in 40K, even if it is cheaper.

The guy who painted my Empire General has won a bunch of U.S. Golden Daemon awards.

I was going to have Mrs. Lupner bring out the egg salad and Tang for Todd, Lisa, and you and I.

(Let's see if you're old enough to recognize those references....)

11. Not quite
I had to google Mrs. Lupner and I think it's a SNL reference from the late 70s. I didn't enter high school until the fall of 1981 and I doubt my parents would have let me stay up until 11:30 on a Saturday night when I was 11, 12 or 13.

12. it is indeed
Mrs. Lupner was played by Jane Curtain, Lisa by Gilda Radner and Todd by Bill Murray.

Mr. Lupner "(god bless his soul)" was born without a spine.
