Before buying a DVD, ALWAYS check out these sources:

www.amazon.com

Look up the title and read a professional reviewer's revies AND customer reviews.

Keep an eye open for multiple people making the same complaint.

Today I bought "The Monkees season 2" set. Notcing how each box set is $80, I thought Rhino would have restored these episodes. Sounds like they DIDN'T. As I didn't open the box and that I also own Columbia House's set on VHS, I'm returning the set.

"Three's Company", "Married w/Children season 1", a few "Doctor Who" titles, and others if you're interested in the show, are of varying quality. (the episode masters clearly do look as good as restoration has made them, but the DVDs show clear signs of sloppy DVD compression. VHS isn't as sharp, but at least the graininess and artifacting is uniformly applied!!!)

Why do companies release this stuff without giving a flying f\duck about them? Especially with the Fascist Communications Company (FCC) about to make us all go to HDTV (which starts me off arguing against the quality of HDTV sets...), where image imperfections are going to royally stick out?
