Parents of middle school students: how long are the dances at your son/daughter's school?
In a faculty discussion where I work, we're discussing the length of our dances (specifically, that they might be too long). How long do the dances last at the schools your children attend?

2. Here they're about 2 hours...
they start right after school and then end at 5:30 so that the kids can get picked up on the way home from work.

One in the fall, one in the spring.

Usually.

Begins right after school and lasts for two hours.

4. Depends
they have occasional ones after school, that go for about 2 1/2 hours, from 3 to 5:30.

they also have one "formal" dance in the spring, that goes from 7 to 10.

5. Two hours from 6 -8 a couple of Fridays during the
year. The 8th graders also get a two hour graduation dance in June.

What I think is stupid about the dances is that they are for all three grades - 6,7,8. Mostly the 6th graders go because the 7th and 8th graders don't want to go to a dance with the "scrubbies" - their term for 6th graders. So, they end up being 6th grade dances.

Would be better to have a dance for the 6th graders right after school and a later one for the 7th and 8th graders in the evening - which is how it was done until a couple of years ago.

6. 8th graders had a dance here last week
from 7:00 till 9:00. Some parents will run late so you'll be out of there by 10 pm. It worked well.

11. Only as long as the song plays. Any longer is just weird.

Oh, man, I should be paid for this level of humor.

14. We have grades 5-8 at our school, so...
Grades 5 and 6 have dances after school (3:15 til 5:15) and 7 and 8 have theirs 7-9:00. We have to "volunteer" two hours a month, so there are usually enough teachers to chaperone. They have about 3 or 4 dances a year: Halloween, Christmas (formal), Valentine's Day, and end of the year.
