Speaking of movies - did anyone else hate "Departed"?
Here's a synopsis:

BLAM! Drip Drip. SPLOCK! Ooze. Big fight scene. Then everyone dies. The end.

Ugh. I can't believe it beat out The Queen. Or even Little Miss Sunshine.

1. I enjoyed it.
I don't think it should have won best picture, but it's better than a lot of crime flicks that I've seen recently.

2. I guess I'm just a violence wimp.
I have a friend who really enjoys slasher movies and he *made* me watch Hostel. Jebus Mary and Joseph. Never, ever again.

4. Ugh, I *HATE* those kinds of horror movies!
:puke:

Those ultra-violent ones are the absolute worst! I don't know if I'm watching a horror movie or a snuff film. I'm with ya on that one!

35. I liked Hostel, but I love love LOVE gory horror movies
Funny thing about slashers is, no matter how much they repeat themselves, it always seems new...

It wasn't great Scorcese ("Raging Bull" or "Taxi Driver" or "Goodfellas") but it sure wasn't bad Scorcese ("Gangs of New York")

16. It was "bad Scorcese"
No, it was not the worst movie ever made. But, in my opinion, it wasn't one of his best films.

Wait till I tell you that I liked "The Aviator" more than I liked "Gangs of New York"

20. I think Lewis realized he was in an overripe piece of garbage...
and he appropriately turned in an over-the-top florid performance. He was the only good thing about that wretched movie.

i love Good fellas, hands down my favorite movie but the age of innocence i thought was very well done and i bet a real pain in the ass to research every Little detail of that time.

with you; "The Age of Innocence" was a very well done change of pace for him.

7. That was my thought as well. It was so overhyped and I heard one review say that it was
almost as good as GoodFellas, which is a classic in my book.

8. Good, but overhyped
I saw it after it won the Oscar so I was expecting this masterpiece... well, it was good, but not THAT awesome.

10. Fuck man - I thought the fucking script was too fucking full of too fucking many F-words.
Fuckin-ay - that just about fucking sums up the fucking script of that fucking movie. How the fuck did that fucking movie win any fucking Oscars, when every other fucking word in the fucking script is some fucking variation of the word "fuck?"

That's all I can remember about that movie. The word "fuck" every 10 seconds.

25. I absolutely HATE scripts like that.
Too many frat-boy-deep movies and series that are constantly lauded (particularly the ones that satisfy mob/gangster/thug life jerk-off fantasies) are just brought the hell down with cliche'd F-bomb loaded scripts. And this is coming from someone who used to invent curse words out of nothing. It's like watching a movie written by a 15-year-old Slipknot fan who just discovered "fuck" and wants to use it as a noun, verb, adjective, adverb, etc, simply to hear it said.

I haven't yet seen The Departed, but I'm probably going to have a low opinion of it judging by the quotes of the movie's dialogue. There's also two other things. Matt Damon is a rangeless punk and I'm rrrrrrrrrreally not getting the whole kid from Growing Pains worship. I mean, he . . . he just doesn't scream "tough guy", OK?? Him and Damon both. I look at him, whatEVER role he plays, however much makeup and what-not comes from the staff desperately trying to man DiCraprio up . . . sorry, I think and see "12 year old". And that stupid scowl. Jesus dude, give it up. You're lucky Scorcese has a hard-on for you for whatever reason. Christ, at least Marky Mark can PLAY the role, and the pathetic thing is he hasn't been DOING this his whole life.

28. Same thing happened with "The Big Lebowski." They took a perfectly awful movie,
dressed it up with F-words and contrived "oddball" characters, and hope that the constant string of profanities will distract you from the fundamental awfulness of the movie itself.

30. That's another one I didn't understand the appeal of.
Other than the Kenny Rogers/First Edition sequence, I just found it to be annoying as hail. "I don't fucking roll on Shabbos!" OK, I'm supposed to care . . . why, Dan Conner?

Of course, all you'll get is a "shut the fuck up Donny, you're out of your element" from their fans.

31. Yeah, that movie inexplicably has a huge following here... you'd think DUers would
have better taste. But they seem to worship the Coen brothers, far beyond the actual merit of their films. I did like "The Man Who Wasn't There" very much, it was their best. I just don't get why people here worship Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers when there are so many far better films from the past to watch.

Way over hyped. I didn't laugh once. Very cliche. I loved The Departed and the Dropkick Murphys rule.

13. I thought it was a good picture, but
It did feel convoluted and direction-less at times. The first time I saw the film, I thought the ending especially was a huge fall off, as if the writers suddenly realized their many potential story angles had to come together to form a cohesive ending, and rather than unwind the tangled strands, they just killed everyone...*cough. Still, over complicating certain story elements and characters plots is clever in that undercover police work is convoluted and complex and, often, futile for what is accomplished. So, I thought it was a good film.

Now, to the level of 'Taxi Driver?' Not even close.

it was overkill (pardon the pun) on F-words. Took away from the dialog. Also, it ran too long. I saw an ending waaaaaaaay before it ended.

29. I enjoyed it
It was solid Scorsese... and I didn't mind it was given an honorary career Oscar, which is what it was. The performances were good, the pacing and editing tight and crisp. Darkly funny too. I would rate it in his Top 10 easily. His worst was "The Color Of Money", which was redeemed only by Paul Newman (who was also granted an honorary career Oscar for his work in that otherwise disappointing sequel).

My favorites by him are "The Last Waltz" and "AfterHours", so my mileage varies widely. :D

and to add insult to injury it was scripted by one of my favorite novelists, Richard Price. They should both be ashamed of themselves.

I mean if you're gonna pay these performing dogs...uh...I mean movie stars what they pull down, they should at least put forth a little effort.
Ray Winstone, who is also in "The Departed", would have done a much better job in the role.
