My dad took the whole family to the first movie in the summer of 1977. I turned 11 that summer.
I was 14 when I saw The Empire Strikes Back.
I was a junior in high school when Return of the Jedi came out, and my friend Debbie and I went to see it at the Southtown Theater in Bloomington, MN. We went on opening night; the line outside of the theater wound around the building a couple of times.
I was pregnant when we went to see Phantom Menace in June of 1999.
My son was an infant when Attack of the Clones was released, so that was the only one of the six that I never got to see in the theater. I watched it on DVD.
When my husband and I went to see Revenge of the Sith, I sat in the theater with my popcorn and diet Coke and became as giddy as a schoolgirl when the music started.

4. That was the first movie my mom let me go to by myself. |
|
I was nine, and my mom gave in to my begging and let me see it -- despite the dangers of letting a nine-year-old into the mall theater alone!
I was entranced. I loved everything Star Wars. Loved it all. It surpassed anything I knew about television or cinema or anything. Saw it about eight times at that theater by myself.
And yes, I had all sorts of Star Wars toys and crap from the time it came out. I'd be a rich man myself, if I'd known what it would have meant to keep everything in its packaging and untouched. Oh, me, if I'd known...
It wasn't that fun to play with, if that means anything. Micronauts were much more interesting...

Damn, I can't remember the name of the theater. Drove there with a car full of friends and we waited in line for an hour to get tickets to a LATE show, all of us tripping on acid. Afterward, we drove home through the late night rural Virgina countryside flashing our high beams on and off making "shew! shew!" weapons sound effects. It was one of the most amazing movies I'd seen at the time.

My son was born April 2, 1977. Going to see Star Wars was our first movie outing after the kid was born. Didn't know anything about it, just that is sounded Sci Fi and we thought we might like it.Geez, we were totally blown away by it.
Star Wars was the first movie we took him to. He was 4. It was re released right before Empire came out. He already had quite a lot of the action figures and stuff and new the story from the books and tapes. When the Millenium Falcon came on the screen, he yelled "I have one of those!"
Empire was the first movie I took his little brother to see. He was three. It was a matinee and he ran up and down the aisles acting like he had a light sabre in his hand. After that the only thing he would wear to nursery school was a Darth Vadar T-shirt, white rubber rain boots, green shorts and a storm trooper helmut.
We had all the action figures, the Millenium Falcon and whatever other toys went with the movies. We even had Star Wars bed spreads. Still have those somewhere.
They breathed Star Wars. Not only did they have the dialogue memorized, they had the choreography. They and their friends would watch the videos, each playing a part doing the dialogue and acting out the fight scenes.
They were in college when the new movies came out. The disappointment in those films was pretty intense.

7. I was 12 and my little brother was 7 years old when it came out. |
|
We went to see it together and he was totally and completely captivated by it. I liked it, but he was in love with the movie.
And he still is. Now his 11 year old son knows all about each of the Star Wars movies as well and they both (father and son) collect Star Wars memorabilia together.

I really didn't enjoy them much until they were re-released though.
