Just signed NRA Blacklist |
|
and it feels good. Anybody else in here sign the list.
And while we're on the topic of the NRA, I'd like to ask what everybody feels about that organization. I know it may be a stupid question, but I'm new here, so I get a pass :bounce:

1. When it was for gun safety it was ok |
|
but it is made up of nutcases now. I support the right to own a hunting rifle but I would never associate with that group unless they cleaned up their act.

6. Agree with you. They are now just a PAC for republicans... |
|
but I won't sign the blacklist. I think the smart thing for the Democrats to do is neutralise the repubs on the "gun rights" issue. I look forward to the day that lowlife prick Wayne LaPierre has to get a real job.

2. To me, NRA == PETA..... |
|
both are underpinned by good causes that deserve my support, but both have been hijacked by extremist wackos and are mostly irrelevant to mainstream Americans.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." - Thomas Jefferson
"Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom."- John Fitzgerald Kennedy

The current NRA is all about insuring that gun nuts can stock up for the Apocalypse.

Over the past decade, the NRA has become a partisan organization rather than a civil rights advocacy group. I've been disappointed with their support of a party that has been instrumental in eroding civil liberties. I support all of the Bill of Rights, not just a select few.

13. You may be on to something . . . |

If the BoR is nullified, we may have to resort to weapons. I'm pro-strict registration, btw; not completely anti-gun.
Could this be what the wingnuts want? I have to wonder . . .

If the election has already been decided between Dubya and the SCOTUS, then yes, our rights are gone. This is why I've harped so much on this board about purchasing some sort of firearm for personal defense. I would like to say that our political system worked, but after 2000, it's clear that it doesn't. Corporate power has co-opted our republic and the Chimp is their chosen spokesperson. The local police in many areas have become militarized, which means that their preparing for something more than terrorism. It's all pretty frightening to take in, but better cautious preparation than blind fear.

That "list" is a yawner, merely a come-on to raise money. They haven't published it and probably never will.

the "nrablacklist" website is merely a fundraising scheme for the anti-gun-owner "Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (through government confiscation of 99% of legally owned firearms)."
But it's America - go ahead and put yourself on a telemarketer list if that's what you'd like.
As far as the NRA goes, I'm still ambivalent about them, but find myself more leaning toward supporting them. Sure, there are a few crackpots on the NRA board, but their grassroots level safety classes are inexpensive, informative, and efficient.
I don't understand the "outrage" over this supposed "blacklist." Progressive groups have long known which businesses and celebreties are anti-choice, pro Confederate flag, etc. I have yet to hear complaints about the moral depravity of those "blacklists."
The only other option is to do nothing, and to continue to allow the anti-gun-owner crowd to control the US firearms debate with misleading, inflammatory terms like "hidden handguns, cop-killer bullets, assault weapons," and now "sniper rifles," in their effort to eradicate private firearms ownership and ensure that people turn over 100% responsibility for their personal safety and well being to government employees who have no legal obligation to ensure that safety.
I reached this position after getting fed up with the anti-gun-owner lies. I would much rather spend my energy arguing about universal child care, instead of whether a SWAT team should bust down my door and kill me because I own a handgun.

I just renewed my NRA membership for another 5 years. Even though I am a member, I'm not particulary fond of them either. They are way too agressive in asking for donations (at least once a month I get a letter asking for more money). I don't really trust them at their word; I'll be very surprised if they stick to their pledge and not compromise on the assault weapons ban. Even though I think the gun lawsuit immunity bill is an important one, I hope the NRA doesn't let it pass with any AWB amendments. I think they need to get more involved with some issues at the State levels. Here in Massachusetts, the gun laws are a travesty. Although as I understand it, the NRA prioritizes their activities, involvement and funding: they don't bother with States that are a lost cause.
The blacklist doesn't count for much... it's about as reliable as any other online poll or petition.
