so I got this letter from Margaret Carlson |
|
CEO of the University of Minnesota Alumni association. And I thought, 'Margaret Carlson went to my school?' As if James r Lileks isn't bad enough!! I mean, Margaret Carlson is infamously known as the person who sold out her brother to shill for Republicans. :puke:
So a google search finds Margaret at Huffpo. Huffpo? I was under the mistaken impression that Huffpo was a progressive blog, but there is Carlson trashing Richardson, and sliming Edwards just for good measure. to Huffpo. RW shills do not need another forum, they already dominate the public airwaves and discourse.
Thankfully, I found that THE Margaret Carlson did not goto my school.
Ironically enough, I also got a letter from Bill Richardson asking for money. Apparently giving a whopping $100 to the DNC gets me on a big donors list. If only they were as eager for my input on the issues as they are in my paltry donations.
Also doesn't the DNC have my email address so candidates can go trolling for money without wasting alot of paper and money on stamps? I mean, 500,000 of these letters must have cost the campaign at least $100,000.

"CARLSON (page 1): 'My brother had suffered serious brain damage at birth, and struggle to give him a normal life stamped my view of the world. I learned quickly to dislike those who slight the weak or different or unlucky…Like some tiny, pigtailed Mike Wallace, I tracked down the parents of kids who didn’t play fair and squealed on them.'
Carlson learned to fight for the weak—and to question the strong. “I learned that when no one is looking, those who think of themselves as the best people can behave like the worst,” she says. “It wasn’t the pale kid with asthma who taunted my brother, it was the tall, good-looking one with the Schwinn three-speed.” And Carlson claims that this early experience made her into a journalist. Because of their struggles on her brother’s behalf, “my parents propelled me toward journalism as surely as if they had the Alsops over for cocktails.” On page one, Carlson says that her concern for the weak is what later led her to journalism. But fifty years later, there she was on that plane, glossing over a public policy which, by her own assessment, “favors the strong over the weak.” She scarfs down the lobster, eats at Kay Graham’s, and mentions Bush’s policies in passing. And when others show concern for the weak, she rolls here eyes and wails in protest."

3. About James Lileks.... |
|
I always loved him until I found out about his right-wingery. Now I can't even enjoy any of his humor. :(

He was writing for the Minnesota Daily most of the time I was in school. I saved alot of his columns. Ordered his books when I saw that he was published. Even tried to sponsor his column in the local paper. I did think it was kinda puzzling in his 2nd book when he wrote about getting within spitting distance of George H. W. Bush and not spitting.
Not sure when he came out, after 9/11 or even before then. I mean, in college he used to write things like 'all Republicans get lobotomys, and that is why Reagan's head wobbles because they put the counter-weights in wrong when they emptied out his cerebral cortex.
I guess he made too much money writing and lost any sympathy he might have had for the working class.
