Errr..."restructured". But I have health coverage until the end of the month (today). Thanks cocksuckers. Actually it was one cocksucker in particular who had it out for me, although of course nobody can cop to that. And HEY we'll give you TWO WEEKS severance if you promise to not talk shit about us and just sign here. Yeah I'll think about that.

3. Sorry for you, it has happened to me many times. Be sure to file for unemployment asap. |
|
Here in CA there is a two week waiting period to get benefits. Make finding a new job your new job. Maybe have a resume service make your resume more appealing.
What ever you do, don't get so down you just lay in bed all day.

11. Can you do COBRA coverage? |
|
I put my 2 weeks in and my last day was the last day of the month and my benefits would continue to the end of the month but that was the day I left. I didn't start the new job until Tuesday (had to get a clean piss test first the following Monday) so I took all the information I needed in the highly unlikely event I got a car accident or something in those 3 days because coverage would be retroactive. I think you can get it for up to 18 months but you have to pay the full premium (what you and your employer were paying combined). I don't know if it varies by state of if it's a federal rule, that was just the information I got.
That's really asshole of them to do it on the last day of the month. It sucks now but if someone 'had it out for you' you might be happier somewhere else. Sounds like what happened to my old boss. I got stuck under someone else and she was the main reason I wound up quitting.
Good luck finding something else!

21. COBRA is too expensive for most people |
|
I've been "laid off" several times and at no time could I afford the COBRA payments. Thankfully I was able to get another job soon after being "laid off."

14. Before you do another thing |
|
and I mean it--call HR tomorrow and immediately tell them you are going to take the COBRA benefits. The company MUST let you take COBRA if you want it--it's Federal Law.
COBRA is an extension of your medical benefits for up to 18 full months. You will pay a premium every month for it, but you cannot be turned down for it, and it should be with your same health provider as you had with the employer. You might want to google it to find out more about it--it's been about 10 years since I had it and some elements might have changed, so you will want to check all the ins and outs of it on your own.
Another thing. If you belonged to a union, you might want to check with the union office about such short notice on them canning you, and if they owe you more than just two weeks severance pay. In addition, there might be some law on the books about letting go without due process or without cause.
Of course, if you live in a "right to work" state, I'm sorry, but there is little you can do except the medical coverage under COBRA.

but having gotten sick recently and had many expensive doctors visits and tests, the $364 I pay is well worth it.....
