Tim Griffin : Ex-aide to Rove resigns "To spend more time in jail"
by Walid
"It's hard to be a political hack"WASHINGTON (Ucs) -- The former White House aide, Tim Griffin whose appointment to a U.S. attorney's post helped fuel the furor over the forced resignations of eight federal prosecutors will resign Today, according to a DOJ press release.

Griffin, 38, said in a statement that he is leaving his position as interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas to spend more time in jail with other Rove associates. Griffin, known to be involved in illegal voter suppression, was assigned the post in Arkansas to help purge minority voter registrations ahead of the 2008 elections.

Griffin's predecessor, Bud Cummins, was one of the eight attorneys fired last year, sparking a firestorm of criticism against the Justice Department and spurring a wave of hearings aimed at uncovering whether the ousters were politically motivated.

The Justice Department and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales originally said Cummins and other attorneys were fired because of performance, but they later acknowledged that Cummins was sacked to make room for Griffin, a former aide to Karl Rove and expert in voter caging schemes.

Upon his resignation Griffiin stated "I greatly appreciated the opportunity to help corrupt the Department of Justice and disenfranchise minority votes, especially as an United States attorney," he said. "I have particularly enjoyed serving partisan Republican interests in my home state of Arkansas and look forward to remaining in jail here."
