my speeding ticket
I am so pissed off right now. Got tagged in Okmulgee Oklahoma this morning...86 in a 65 0n I75.

Fascist Oklahoma State Stormtrooper got me...and i didn't have the damn radar detector on.

It's gonna cost me $213.00...:-(

I think he might have let me off...but the damn Texas Democrat sticker on the back window was my undoing...

or maybe it was the "Somewhere in Texas a village is missing its idiot" sticker...

oh well...c'est la vie!!!

11. When you're fishing do you catch every fish in the lake?
I learned a really neat trick when I was about 20 years old on how not to get speeding tickets, and it's even cheaper and works better than any radar detector on the market. I haven't had a single speeding ticket since. The trick? Don't speed. You get better gas mileage that way, too.

18. Don't pay the ticket and plead guilty. Rather, get an attorney fast.
I don't think you will be able to amend your offense down 21 mph to 65 but your attorney can negotiate the speed between 10-15 mph if the officer, prosecutor, and judge agree to the change. And your attorney will protect you from having your license suspended, not to mention how much of a fine you pay and maybe the points on your license (translated: your insurance surcharge).

Send a letter ASAP to the court, pleading not guilty and get an attorney with a good track record. (Hint: go to the court cited on your ticket and watch the defense traffic attorneys and make a consumer's choice or ask a friend.)

Good luck.

21. The attorney is not a bad idea
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 12:37 PM by WyoMee
Depending on how many points you have against your license, you might need an attorney to get you fewer points.

When I got my 4th speeding ticket in a year and was close to losing my license, my attorney got me to plead to going fewer miles over the limit, which meant fewer points. I still had to agree to the full fine. And my insurance went way up.

That was ten years ago. Only one speeding ticket since. I won't say that that one time was the only time I exceeded the speed limit, however.

I was in a one-car accident twelve years ago on a county highway, went off the road into a cornfield at 80 mph. I broke a vertebra and, twelve years later, am suffering the consequences of degeneration at that point. Then, again going too fast, I hit an antelope, rolled the car, and broke three ribs.

Now, I rarely go more than 8-9 miles over the limit.

(edited for clarity)

20. Pay the ticket
LOL! So, let me understand this - you were about 20 miles over the speed limit? The speed limit is 65 and you were doing 85? Then the cop stopped you and fined you? It probably has little to do with the bumper-sticker on your car. I would suggest that "you do the crime, you do the time"! Pay the ticket and then learn from it and then remember to turn on your radar detector! LOL!!

22. I intend to pay it in full
I got tagged...simple enough. But what annoys me is that I got caught. I'm sure that the reason I was pulled over was because I was from out of state. Makes sense to tag the guy from out of town...less chance of him fighting it...more revenue for the town.

I also believe that the reason he wrote it for the full amount is because I had the audacity to exprees my contempt for Bush* publicly...

Where I live 86 miles an hour puts you in the slow lane. Chances are you wouldn't even get noticed by the cops for going that slow.

26. I got pulled over in Oklahoma in 2000. 83 in a 65.
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 01:51 PM by Bertha Venation
It was on I-40, and I still remember the trooper's name: Carter. He had me dead to shit, and I could feel my insurance premium rising. I don't know why, but he let me off with a warning.

Somehow I guess my "Gore/Lieberman" and "homophobia is a social disease" bumper stickers didn't faze him. Go figure.

I guess my questions, BlueCollar, are, why are you angry, and why is the state trooper a fascist for doing his job? I realize you're teasing about the bumper stickers being his reason, but still, I'm curious.

Edit: PS Are you sure it was Interstate 75? If I'm wrong, feel free to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, but I wasn't aware I-75 went through OK. I thought it was Florida - Michigan.

28. I'm angry
because of his demeanour. I understand he was doing his job, but the way in which he ordered me out of the car, his curtness etc.. just ticked me off. If he'd smiled or been a little more friendly I'd have been OK with it.

I was polite, didn't question anything...

I'll retract the "Fascist" part. That wasn't fair.

It's OK though...I learned a lesson...stay on the turnpike next time...:-)

runs south to Dallas. I got on 44 as soon as I could, went over to OK city and got on I35.

Anyway, what's done is done...just be glad you didn't get all the sanctimonious souls giving you s**t for admitting you were doing 83. Apparantly anyone who doesn't do exactly what the speed limit indicates...oh never mind...that's a whole different thread...lol

I'd be standing in line a the grocery store, listening to a conversation and one person says "oh, my god" -- I'd turn around and get in their face and say, "IS He your God?!" <shaking my head in shame>

34. I just did a 130 mph run an hour ago
from Memmingen to Munich. Why they have speed limits on huge stretches of highway in the US (Arizona comes to mind where I used to live) and where cars built to handle 100+ mph speeds...I'll never know.

This "speeding kills" mantra is just that...crap. Germany has 10% fewer accidents that the States.

What I would like to see is real driving education in States. Not this $25 dollar course at high school where you drive around a block once and get your learner's permit at 16 so you can drive with your mom.

35. Dude, Interstate 75 Runs From Detroit, MI
to Miami, FL and passes through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia in addition to Michigan and Florida. It's one of the major north-south routes east of the Mississippi River!

Is there another Interstate 75? Have the feds messed up and created duplicate highway numbers?

38. Federal highways and Interstates...
...are apparently two different things.

from this website:

"Note: The US Highway sytem is a different critter than Interstates. Interstates have special funding, US Highways are funded from the same pot as state highways. In fact, a US highway is just a state highway with a fancy shield and a number that matches the national grid. US highways are meant for navigation only, as opposed to the 'quality' function of Interstate routes."

That thing north of Dallas looks to be a Federal Highway, not an Eisenhower Interstate.

41. Didn't a certain legislator who thought he could travel at any speed
recently get a manslaughter conviction for connecting with a fellow motorist at about the speed you were going?

It isn't the democrat sticker, it isn't because youwere going with the flow. it was the defect on your car, the loose nut behind the wheel.
