1. Yes, zero can be a very troublesome number, |
|
but without it there would be a huge void!
It's the imaginary numbers that are to be despised!
Then, there was my great awakening. Being educated and mathematically trained in the North, I always thought zero was zero. But, taking a theory of linear algebra course at American U while in the Navy, I found the real truth of zero -- it's pronounced zzzzeeero!

2. The Arabs came up with it. |

And in my grocery store cookie aisle, we have the battle of:
Leibniz cookies; and
Fig Newtons!!!
I'm not a math geek, I've just hung out with them for decades.

4. What really bugs me about zero |
|
...is when people use it wrongly:
It's not "Zero finance charge until next millenium", it's "No finance charge until next millenium"! It's not "I have zero interest in this topic", it's "I have no interest in this topic"! It's not "He paid me zero", it's "He paid me nothing"!
Get it? Zero is a numeral, not an amount or a number. My sixth grade teacher taught me the difference, and I don't understand why most of the US don't get it!

5. You're talking about people that don't understand the metric system. |
