I'm watching a show on hot dogs and they are showing all the different places around the country and their hot dogs. So I thought I would ask:

I like mine boiled on a steamed bun with chili, cheddar, onions and sour cream.

Sweden......varmkorv with mashed potato, mustard on the side
Denmark...... the long thin red ones with mashed potato and hot mustard on the side.

Never, never, never is ketchup to be anywhere near a hot dog

What is really so wrong about the addition of the ketchup, if that is what one desires? I have seen Monsieur Bourdain eat all manner of things that I might judge inedible on any given day, but I also don't think he should be killed for doing so. I mean, c'mon, ketchup is such a minor culinary offense...It's not like I'm ordering my meat 'well-done'... :P

If I saw someone put ketchup on a porterhouse steak, I would cringe. But I don't know about a hot dog. I think Chicagoans are true to their dogs and that's why they don't like it. :shrug:

27. I can't eat hot dogs or bologna anymore

About 12 years ago I started getting sebaceous cysts on my face in flurries. Big ones, mostly in the neck and chin area. I finally saw a doctor specializing in internal medicine and he asked about my diet. I was eating bologna sandwiches every night. He told me chemicals in bologna and hot dogs were known to cause sebaceous cysts in some people. Once I got rid of them from my diet, the cyst problem disappeared.

But let's see, in the old days I used to prefer a slightly toasted bun with a grilled dog and ketchup, onions and relish.

...in as large a quantity as she can beg, borrow or steal. What she prefers and what she gets are two different things. Except for the occasional pigs ear, I keep all pork and bread products out of her reach...it gives her "potty" issues... So she can have perhaps a couple of the turkey franks, plain.

We had a great walk, hung out with a pal, (a handsome brindled male up the block)...dropped off a few calling cards in carefully selected spots and even got a tummy rub from the neighbor... I would say it was a perfect walk indeed!

The best hot dog I've ever had was a RemDawg at Fenway Park - it's at least a foot long and THICK (wow, am I glad this isn't a sex thread). A truly amazing experience. I needed three packets of mustard and relish each just to cover it all. An epic ballpark dog - can't beat that.
