Interesting evening.
I met a guy who is basically a communist, as well as the most vulgar, he can go fuck himself racist, at the same table. Then I saw some local girls, but when it became obvious my co-worker didn't care enough to introduce me to them, I left.

1. I went to an AA meeting to see my friend get his 10-year cake
It was in the neighborhood where I grew up, with about 300 attendees. I saw a lot of familiar faces. Not something I'd do every Saturday night but it was very enjoyable.

4. If he hadn't gotten sober he'd very likely not be alive today

Like many stories you hear at AA meetings, he couldn't put a bottle down until it was empty. Then when that and all the other bottles in the house were done he'd head out to buy more. He started crashing cars and getting arrested as his problem progressed.

I've known the guy for 30 years. Another member of our circle of friends from high school presented him his cake. We all faciliated a lot of each others' bad behavior for a lot of years. But we have kept up the circle and still love and trust each other very deeply. It's great knowing people that long.

The principle speaker was a woman who had basically lived in the gutter and supported herself by prostitution until she was about 30. Her story was painful to listen to but also very humorous.
