ok what is proper/ best ?
you are in a chat room talking away when a third person both of you know logs in & says hi.

after a few lines of typing you notice something odd & you stop typing, since the other two people are no longer involving you in the chat but merely responding to your text if you type something.

when you stop starting a topic the other two people no longer type anything.

A psranoid person would maybe assume the other two people are PM ing & have no interest in chatting with you.

should you log off so as not to bother them ?
or should they ask you to leave?
or should they have excused themselves & gone somewhere else?

It just seems rude for them to chat only with private messages
rather than participate in a three way conversation, it is afterall
a chat room and we all knew each other from previous chats.

What do you think ?

2. assume that you did not take it personally, now
what do you do with the situation as described above since
" Not taking it personally" still leaves you in a chat room with two other people logged on & no text showing up in the chat window.

5. If you really didn't take it personally, then there is no issue
and thus no reason to answer your hypothetical question.

Either you take it personally, and need to deal with it, or don't take it personally, in which case everything is just fine.

But there is no not taking it personally, yet still being bothered by it.

7. Was there an answer in ther about what you would do ?
moof has been on all sides of the stated situation
& what took place in no way means it was the correct
incorrect, polite or rude thing to do.

The circumstances that were set up in the hypothetical situation
were meant to be the least desirable of the three positions,
and in that position what were the most likely ways out of the situation.

So far even though Jim Sagle did not pick one of the stated options
Jim's option did get him out of the situation.

9. Ah, it's hypothetical
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 03:28 AM by Rabrrrrrr
I don't work in hypothetical, because my answer, in real situations, is always based on my mood, the context, and many other factors, and so my hypothetical answer will be different than my real answer, and my real answer will vary from experience to experience.

I'm sorry - I thought you were being serious when you posed the question, and that you were actually dealing with a real issue.

Sorry to have bothered.

12. Twas no bother, & apologies for any inconvience
Your explaination sans answer is still of moderate value for the purposes of any seriousness or sillieness involved with the participation in this tread so it is hoped that you have not been left to feel put upon or otherwise dealth with in anything less than an amount of respect that at least matches your own amount in that regard.
