An hour on the treadmill. That was a first.
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 05:15 PM by JackBeck
And I know you're the new guy, Mitch, and want to run for the condo association (I'm glad I changed my mind on that one), but the next time, please don't talk to me for 10 minutes after I get off. You cooled me down and that's bad gym etiquette.

So what's my reward, you ask?

Vodka and Sprite Zero, my favorite cocktail!

How's your weekend so far, Loungers?

1. Hi, Jack. Good for you on the treadmill! We just returned from Scotland to Newark (overnight) and
back to Portland, Oregon. It's pretty hot here, and that vodka drink looks mighty inviting. But it would put me to sleep quickly, and I'm trying to get on our local Pacific Time. It's just 2:30 PM and my body is telling me to rest...

Have a wonderful Sunday, whatever you're up to!

Your internal clock must be all sorts of whackadoodle.

I hope you had a wonderful trip and glad to hear you're home safe and sound.

We might go to New Jersey Pride in Asbury Park tomorrow.

Have wonderful weekend, as well!

Jack

4. Whackadoodle, doo! Yep, that's what my clock is saying!
It's really my circadian clock -- my biological clock stopped a long time ago, after raising five kids in a merged family. I just turned 68 years old and glad to be out of those frantic days of long ago.

Asbury Park -- I remember it well during the time I was married to the guy from Washington Heights, and lived on East 28th Street in Manhattan (1963 to 1969). We used to go down to Tom's River a lot -- I think the people we visited once were somehow involved with the Mafia, or maybe I remember it wrong. That was a long time ago, before Tony Soprano and family got so popular.

We got to visit with my first cousin and her husband at the Marriott Newark International hotel. They braved rush hour traffic from Haworth, NJ, to come and visit up last night. The bar served onion soup and the club sandwich was pretty good!

Love New Jersey! My present husband lived in Randolph Township in his previous life and my best gal pal is from Morristown -- but now living in Boca Raton, Florida.

8. D'oh. Went back and edited.
Meant to say internal clock. I've got "biological" on my mind because we've been talking about having kids. Mine has been ticking very loud. We're going to explore our options once we get back from our vacation.

I'm an original Jersey boy, so when we bought our first place almost a year ago, it was like a homecoming. It's funny you mention Morristown. I'm from Moorestown, in South Jersey. When I moved to Brooklyn, I quickly learned to just say I was from the Cherry Hill area, since everyone thought I kept saying I was from Morristown.

They say Asbury Park is going through a lot of changes, after being economically decimated for so many years. I hope we do get a chance tomorrow to see how much has changed.

2. HEy, dollbaby!
That long tall cool one looks great! We're riding our bikes over to some friends in Oregon Hill, will sip drinks on their back porch that has a view of the stone pyramid in Hollywood Cemetery. Never let anybody tell you Richmond isn't exotic!

We did equal parts errands and laziness so far. We went to the best BBQ place in town for lunch so we're having a good day.

I'm glad you escaped being condo association prez. Yikes.

See you about!

7. Buddy!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.

Besides going to the gym, it's been general laziness for me and the Mr.

He's looking for better employment and I'm spending time with what he lovingly refers to as my "internet predator friends". :silly:

I was very much into running for the board, but changed my mind after attending the first association meeting. Our building has 150 units. Enough said.

See ya' around the intertubes, my friend.

10. That's a great picture.
During better times.

Is that one you scanned from your own collection, or did you find that on the net?

16. I thought it was from your own collection of memorabilia.
You have such a sharp and descriptive memory when sharing your past and I've enjoyed your stories. I wouldn't have been surprised if that photo was yet another part of the way you continue to give us a glimpse into your life experience.

9. Even though our gym is in the basement
Sometimes it's still difficult to get motivated, especially during the week. Our train ride is only 25 minutes, but by the time we get home, something changes our mind.

We're going on vacation for the first time in almost 7 years, so that's our big motivation right now.

In an hour on the treadmill, I try and get between 7-8 done. Either way :yourock:

12. Funny you ask.
That's one of the things I never check.

I switch inclinations every five minutes from 7 to 14 at a speed of 4.3 the whole time. I started working out last November on a pretty regular basis. The gym's in the basement of our building, for crying out loud.

I always check calories, for some reason. Today I burned 440. For whatever reason, that number made me happy. I usually just use the treadmill as a warm-up for about a half hour, before moving on to other things. But the Mets were on, and I had great tunes pumping out of my headphones, so I got inspired.

I was SOAKED by the time I got done!

As a warm-up and I've seen a huge difference since November.

It's great exercise!

19. Ha! Good one, xchrom.
I'm a hard one to pin down. A little mixed bag of nuts. I took the day off when Pelosi was being sworn in and watched it on C-SPAN while at the gym. I was by myself, thankfully, since I could only imagine what someone would think if they walked in.

As a gay man, I've always felt conflicted about sports. Growing-up, I avoided them since it was pretty much a guarantee that I'd be the brunt of the bullying. And when I came out, I went back into the closet as a sports fan because back then, gay men weren't supposed to enjoy sports. But I had a second coming out, of sorts, when I noticed how many gay men showed up at the gay bar I worked at during the Subway Series years ago. The old school queens complained, but all I had to say was, "But look how many guys are here!" This all culminated in me playing 2nd base a few years ago for the Big Gay Apple Softball league. What a great experience that was!

20. ooohhh -- you are a jock! -- that is so cool.
i've always worked out -- at different stages -- from high school on.

i wasn't well liked by the jocks -- but i could kick their ass -- so it was a releatively low level of hell.
so i worked out anyway.

i didn't so much in new york -- but those were different days -- and gyms weren't part of the consciousness then.

then i started again in my thirties -- and i won't tell how old i am{a lady always leaves a little mystery around her} but i'm still at it.

just makes ya feel good.

the draw back -- if you take a time out -- the older you get the harder it is to start again.
