Fuckin' Food Network, keeping America dumb. Pressure is measured in force PER UNIT AREA, douchebags. |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 10:01 PM by Rabrrrrrr
They just had a question, "How much pressure is in a bottle of champagne?"
And for possible answers they had 50 pounds, 75 pounds, or 90 pounds.
Well, douchebags, ALL those answers are correct since you have no PER UNIT AREA measure.
Douchebags.
Hell, I answer it with "900 uppity quintillion gajillion brazillian pounds!!!!!!!!"
"An infinite number of pounds!!!!"
Jesus, shit like this yanks my chain.
The ratio of scientifically illiterate people to literate people in this country is like Jupiter to a quark. Or the record sales of an American Idol winner versus an actual musician like, say, Tom Waits.
Fuck.

2. Did you see Bourdain's rant about Food TV on Ruhlman's blog a couple of months ago? |
|
Angry and classic. Absolutely classic.

about his rant. Damn I missed it. I noticed some jackass called him the "food world's Bill O'Reilly". Why??? At least Bourdain is funny. I'll call him the food world's "Simon" but not Billo. http://www.chow.com/grinder/2606

5. damn, that's just tragic |

That stuff annoys the shit out of me too. Calling evolution "just" a theory irks me as well, and it's becoming an increasingly common phrase that I encounter.

10. Point taken - it's scientifically inaccurate. |
|
but even people who know better (such as myself) often take the shortcut, saying pounds, rather than pounds per square inch, or psi. We assume people know we're referring to pounds per square inch, rather than pounds per acre, or pounds per aune of furrows.

13. um, in many circles, such a qualifier a 'per sq x' is left off coz it's understood/redundant. |
|
i'm in the the construction world, and when talking bout concrete, nobody uses the word 'cubic', the volume is simply refered to as yards, or 'square' when rerering to area, it's simply 'feet'.

16. Yes, but national TV is not an appropriate place for sloppiness of that sort. |
|
Save the shorthand for times when one knows that people understand what it means. We used lots of shorthand when I was an engineer, as well, but it's not appropriate outside those circles.
