I finally saw 'Being There'
What a disappointment. That joke was stretched waaaaaay too thin. I suppose Sellers did a good job. I dunno. I didn't much care. It was initially interesting watching him forced out of his cocoon and into the world, but it quickly grew boring. I wasn't terribly impressed with the rather obvious commentary on American society, either. I'd never have imagined that a simpleton's homilies about gardening, delivered to jaded sophisticates, could be stretched into an entire movie. Fucking lame.

I should give the book a try, perhaps. Kosinksi is usually interesting.

1. I read the book in high school...
I thought it was better than the movie, it's a decent quick read

2. One of my 10 favorite films
It's a masterpiece, and Sellers is brilliant.

4. mine too
it is dated now but I still love it even if I don't watch it often.
I was 'out' for a few months with a brain injury that turned me back to thinking like a little kid for a couple of years. So when I re-saw Being There I connected with it more than I had before- the naive adult turned loose on the crazy world. I think that theme of it stands up.
It was always one of my favorites though, and I like Peter Sellers so maybe that's part of it.

3. They made a movie out of that classic Wilco album?
Sounds cool but I don't know who they'd cast in it

6. Same here.
I thought it was okay but don't understand its 'cult status'.
