9. Hi Ptah and happy birthday to your son. Every time I see your photos, I promise myself

I will dig out that big unfiled paper box of family photos in our storage area over the garage -- and scan them into a computer.

They are all rotting in that box. We must have hundreds of pictures from the 1960s through 1998 when we moved to Portland. We've done much better during the last ten years!

Problem is that many of photos document happy times in our merged family's history -- but the pain came later. Due to family disagreements, we not in touch with two of my stepdaughters (their choice) their husbands and children. It pains me so much that we have been dealt out of their lives and the lives of the five grandchildren who do not know us. A psychologist finally told me to give up after sixteen years of trying to patch things up through gifts, loans, get-togethers, etc., which didn't work. I did as she asked and have joined my husband in just putting these memories away. He doesn't trust his two grown daughters at all, doesn't want them in his life because of the pain, and refuses to discuss it anymore.

Luckily, the three other children, their spouses, and our five grandchildren in these families do care about us and we have a wonderful relationship with them.

Anyway, thanks for posting.
