2. I'm ready to snap at my neighbor,too....
He lives across the street, and has a postage-stamp sized lawn which he mows with a Hummer-sized riding lawnmower, usually between 7-8 in the morning several times a week. We've sent him a nice letter, signed by several neighbors, asking him to please do it a bit later in the day...but nothing has helped.

28. My neighbor does that too
Mows three times a week. What a waste. It is loud.

There are some guys who like to ride around on mowers and tractors. They do it for fun but act like big martyrs because their yard looks better than everyone else's - when actually they just want to ride around.

4. It must be her "hobby".
My lawn isn't growing AT ALL -wooohooooo! We have had drought conditions for quite a while and it has taken on a nice brown crispy apperance! I hate it for the farmers but I haven't had to mow but once every three weeks to keep the weeds down.

I don't know what I would do in your case.

5. My parents live next to a guy who does yardwork from dawn to dusk EVERY DAY.
He's always out there with some loud machine or other yard implement, everything from the mower to edgers and leaf-blowers, to fertilizer spreading devices...it just never stops.

My Dad mows the lawn about once a week and never does anything else.

My parents' grass is green; the neighbor's yard, despite all the work, is brown. Go figure.

18. Here's the dumbest part of his using a leaf blower.
The only trees around here are palm trees. That's it. And it's not like anyone ever has huge piles of palm fronds lying around. It just doesn't happen.

So when he has the leaf blower going, he's blowing sand off of his driveway. I'm not talking about lots of sand either. I'm talking about an amount of sand that you could maybe fill a small bucket with.

The guy is just obsessed with the machinery and "doing work." I guess that's a guy thing, but the least he could do is find a hobby that doesn't make noise that intrudes on everyone else's life. For instance, my dad paints. No one has ever been awakened by the sound of a paintbrush.

I'm sorry to hear your wife have to deal with that crap when she's trying to sleep.

What is the purpose of a lawn? You can't eat it. People spend a fortune on their lawn and it gives nothing back. After all that effort, do they really want the kids playing football on it? Makes no sense to me.

It's grass, man. Just grass.

15. my front lawn looks awful this year, i shut my sprinkler system off in the fall
and left it off until may and i only water 3 days a week because we didn't near enough rain and the snow pack is lower than usual so we are supposed to follow the water restrictions, i did and my lawn is paying for it. Meanwhile all of my neighbors lawns look like putting greens. I'm thinking of ripping out the lawn and doing zero scape.

and mail it to her anonymously. She may have no idea that by mowing so frequently she's asking for her lawn to fail during the hot weather.

20. Are you living on the other side of my neighbor?
The reason I ask is that my neighbor does the same damn thing all the time. Maybe we should form a community standards committee. It gets on my nerves too.

In answer to your question on my part:
As few times per summer as I can legally get away with it. If it's 3 inches tall instead of 2 inches tall, my world is not going to end. Life goes on. Some people just have too damn much time on their hands. All that much mowing isn't necessary.

I have a neighbor who does the same thing. He even yelled at a kid because his football hit the corner of his lawn once. I saw him on his hands and kneees cutting a few blades with scissors. The man retired years ago and he's channeled his energies in that direction ever since.

23. It IS my neighbor.
He also happens to be the uncle of one of my church members. She tells me that he actually goes outside every day and MEASURES his grass. If it gets above 2-1/2 inches, he whips out the mower.

Since he's put up a fence in the last year, at least I'm spared having to see him without his shirt on.

26. I find myself fuming over the gas waste
I know it's stupid but everytime she climbs on that John Deere (several times every week), I can't help but think about her gas usage and what a waste it is. I honestly don't fall prey to her passive aggressive suggestions about keeping-up-with-the-Jones' so I stubbornly continue mowing once/week and (gasp!) sometimes even once every other week. It's just that I can't escape thinking about how much the rest of the world must hate us for our wastefulness demonstrated by shit like the thrice weekly lawn mowing with the gigantic gas hog.

Jayzus, she owns enough land for a freaking meadow - plant a prairie dammit.

No.... she has to have perfectly manicured golf course grass.

and then he looks at what little grass I have and he bitches..."how do you do that"...I mow it once a week or less frequently if there isn't enough precipitation...isn't rocket science.

most of my yard is gardens however...

30. Here's what you do

Take an empty dish soap squeeze bottle, fill it with liquid grass fertilizer.

Under the light of a new moon, or whenever you can get away with it....go over to your neighbor's lawn and write in the grass with the fertilizer "Stop mowing me" or whatever appropriate phrase suits you.

In about 7-10 days the lawn will be thicker and greener and the words will stand out when the grass is mowed. It will last most of the summer.

It works like a charm. I'd trade neighbors with you...mine cuts his grass at 11:00 at night.

Good luck!

32. Move
Neighbors who have OCD about their own yards tend to be judgmental as hell over everyone's yard. My former neighbor insisted on cutting the grass on my side of the lot line all the way to the driveway because it made him nuts if there was a variation of height. Same guy who, on garbage day, would pull my garbage can from the curb and place it directly in the center of my driveway so that I couldn't come or go without putting it away. The last time he did that I hauled the can back to the curb and left it there for 2 days.

34. We have a next door neighbor who does the same thing
First he fertilizes then he mows, and mows and mows. He mows at least 3 times a week. Then he fertilizes again. It drives us crazy, especially when he mows at 7 am on a weekend or at 9 pm in the evening. The best I've seen him do was the time he fertilized, then immediately got the mower - ride on of course - out and mowed, then threw more fertilizer on.
