The DYLAN MOVIE: I'm Not There
Poster

The first poster for that Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There has apparently leaked online. I say 'leaked' because I don't believe it's been officially released, and the pics we do have aren't very clear. However, the poster offers us enough of a look at (I think) Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger as Bob Dylan. I'm not sure who that first guy is (Richard Gere?), but following him are, what appear to be, Blanchett, Bale and a very Buddy Holly-looking Ledger. Ben Whishaw and Marcus Carl Franklin are also playing Dylan in the film; in total, there will be six Bob Dylans. Confused? Good.

1. Why does the poster have those cue cards from that scene in Bob Roberts?
Dylan was an original man, not someone who would steal ideas from an early 90s satirical movie

4. Are you kidding me? A Minnesota boy trying to sound like Ralph Stanley?
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 05:24 PM by jpgray
 Aside from what you've already been schooled on with regard to the cue cards, Dylan stole plenty--his early melodies are almost all nicked from extant folk tunes. Still a great songwriter, however.

6. In this case however it was literal love and theft
People we call original just steal more indirectly. :D

Did you read his autobiography? He's proud of it.

15. Dylan sues everyone. He's probably suing me because I adore him.
I heard from some musicians that he is a freak. That makes him gold in my book.

31. great stories in the Dylan film on PBS
about him stealing records, books, moves, etc. from prominent folkies. Some were amused, and some were not.

18. As I understand it,
each actor is playing an aspect of Dylan throughout his life and career as represented in his music. I'm sure that makes it much clearer! :P

I have a friend who is inexplicably impressed by my "talent" for this. I tell him that it is easy; all it takes is a past history of amphetamine use and skimming through books

16. The multiple actors playing the same role schtick was stolen from Todd Solondz...
his film "Palindrome" from only a couple of years ago used the same thing

25. It's no "Happiness", but what is?
"Palindrome" worked more as an interesting experiment rather than a completely satisfying experience.
That's a rather lukewarm recommendation, isn't it? :)

26. Happiness was like Touched by an Angel, Little House on the Prairie, and Ozzie and Harriet all
rolled into one.

Then rewritten by Charles Manson.

29. Yes indeed...
also, one of the many things that I like about "Happiness" is that so much of the dialogue is comprised of cliches. Not "movie dialogue cliches", but the cliches that people mouth in their day-to-day lives.
I don't find Solondz to be a misanthrope, but rather a keen observer of human behavior.
