Does anybody here know anything about post office exam results? |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 11:19 PM by Allenberg
I took an entrance level exam (clerical abilities) for the USPS, and I got my results back.
It says 87.80 TP
1) Is this a good score? 2) What does TP mean? I'm hoping it doesn't mean tissue paper.
It says notice of rating eligible. I assume I at least scored enough to be eligible for hire, but I don't know how good I got. Can anyone help?

My fiance took that a few months ago. IIRC, 80+ is passing for an entry level, non-career level placement. Career level is 90+ i think.
congrats! :)

2. What's the difference? |
|
Would I only be eligible for a temporary job, and not permanent placement, or am I reading that wrong?

This was for USPS, btw.
If you pass and get under 90, you work 6 weeks and then have a week off before you're rehired for the next 6 weeks; once you're hired, you keep getting rehired no matter what unless you're a real fuckup.
If you get over 90 and take a career level, you don't have that week off. It's full time w/ no week break every 6 weeks.
Hope that helps :)

Work six weeks, off a week, work six weeks, off a week...indefinitely, or at some point, you get hired on without the break in work? That seems a bit odd.

5. yeah it's weird. You do get vacation time in 6 months, though, iirc. |

6. I used to work there and recently took the test to get reinstated |
|
Did you take the test with the huge section on personality profile? 87 is a good score if that's the test you took. In the day before the personality profiling was part of the test you needed high 90s (and or veterans preference) to be a shoe in. Now of course it depends on where you live and how often they hire but I know someone in California and someone in Wisconsin neither of whom scored over 80 who both got called back within six months or so of taking the test.
I have to say this though, I worked there for 10 years and it is a soul crushing kind of place. I applied for reinstatement but in the end I couldn't bring myself to go back. To be fair, some people are very content to spend their entire career at the PO and the pay is pretty decent. But please do be aware that it's run by a bunch of psychotics with absolutely no formal management skills. To be again try to be fair, perhaps Milwaukee is not the best representative of the postal service at its finest but I would urge you to think long and hard if you're considering giving up another job to go there. Just my 2 cents.

7. the guy who interviewed me |
|
told me he was an a$$hole, and that his people were working through their lunches to get everything done. Also that they walked 13 miles a day. It was only a subbing job, and I had to be on call for every PO within 50 miles. Plus I had to take a drug test before I even interviewed. That was the year I took, and passed, 3 drug tests without ever getting a real job. What a waste of time.

I'm actually rather bitter about my whole postal experience. It's been described to me thusly -- from they day they hire you, they're looking for a way to fire you. Sure there's a union but a pretty toothless one at that. If there's a labor law they can break the postal service will do it.

9. Oh yeah, I should have said that. |
|
I have veteran's preference. I contacted the office where I took my test, and she told me that a good number of people failed. She said with my VP and test score, I should be fine. They'll be calling people back in July for a typing test.

10. You're a shoe in then |
|
I'm sorry my previous comment was such a downer. I know that there are a lot of people who are very happy working there and the benefits are really quite good. Your military time will count towards time in service and you'll accrue annual leave at a higher rate from the get go. I hope it all works out well for you.
