We just don't see stuff like this any more. Seinfeld came close many a time, but that's about it.

Friends certainly could never have pulled this off.

Notice the timing, the facial gestures, the physical movements, the use of the voice in this short clip of John Ritter as a waiter in an ice cream shop on the original Newhart show - five brilliant actor comedians working together:

I actually remember seeing this episode when it originally aired. I loved that show.

Unreal. I can't believe how many times I've reference this since it was *aired*. Originally. I recalled the whale bit and the slicker Newhart's attempted dodge of upcoming spectacle, etc.

Seriously. Whenever I go out for ice cream and somebody orders a single scoop of vanilla, I'll say the "party pooper" line. And i can't help of think of the skit when you go out to an restaurant and for some poor soul's b-day they don them w/ sombrero, stomp their feet and sing, send belly dancer to your table...

I always think of this skit and am glad it's not me.

Edited to say thanks again, Rabrrrr.

5. What's wrong with TV Land that they don't put this show on.
Or That Girl?

Or Adam12.

7. "Single scooper! Single scooper! This man is a party pooper!"
Good stuff.

I wish Ritter and Newhart could have worked together more. I have a feeling Bob's deadpan would have fit nicely with John's energy.
