Reading the comments:
encierro75 That calf was sooooo lucky! Does anyone know how the water buffaloes organized themselves in order to drive away the lions?
Eisenmond (1 week ago) A democratically elected government of Water Buffaloes formed the LEMA (Lion Emergency Management Agency) which takes a little time to organize, but seems to come through in the end...
---------------------------------
Just one nit, the bovines in the group are African Cape Buffalo, smaller but of a nastier disposition than their Asian counterparts.
It sure looks like the calf survives. The croc actually gets a hold on one of the lioness's forefeet, not the calf as I originally thought.
Safety in numbers: I like how the entire herd encircles the lions towards the end and drives them off.
The moral of the story? Don't fuck with the Cape Buffalo.

Because those are certainly lions. Had they been Tigers, then we would have been talking Asia.

2. I didn't know lions could do a double take. |

Then the camera pans back and and you see the buffalo coming in like the flippin' cavalry.

when they came back. Other herd animals would have been happy to have fled and survived with their own skins intact. But not the Cape Buffalo.
They regrouped and returned en mass to avenge/rescue one of their own.
Cape Buffalo don't really have to worry about anyone except humans. And they manage to take a number of humans each year as well.
