3 Men Involved In Medieval Fight (Used Battle-Axe, Sword & Crossbow)
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 06:48 AM by matcom
<snip>

Two Alabama men are in the jail following a brawl straight out of the Middle Ages.
A third man involved in the fight, Pat Tordt, got out of the hospital Saturday night.

The fight was so intense weapons used were scattered some 30 yards down the street where the fight occurred.

The weapons were also something of a curiosity: a battle-axe, sword, and crossbow were among those recovered.

Tordt said that two friends came to his home and attacked him after an argument on the telephone.

Huntsville Police confirmed two men did come to Tordt's home on Joslin Street.

"They pulled up in the truck, rolled the window down, said a few words that weren't very polite to me, 'you want something come get it', all that and spun the tires started taking off," said Tordt,"I busted the passenger side window with the golf club, I admit that. They went up probably up past that pole, they both jumped out, one had an ax, it's an ax with a spike on the other end which is what he chopped me in the arm with."

Tordt added that he was tackled to the ground and in self-defense, used a knife to stab one of the alleged attackers.

"I know if he hits me in the head with this bat it's going to kill me so I stabbed the dude in the back," said Tordt, "I was hit with an ax on this arm. Then I was stabbed. While I was trying to defend myself I was clocked across the back several times with a ball bat and hit numerous times in the back of the neck."

Neighbors said Tordt was left bleeding in the street after the attack.

Police soon caught up with the other men in their truck not far from the scene.

One was taken to the hospital.

Sgt. DeWayne McCarver of the Huntsville police said the injuries were serious, and the weapons of choice aren't something police run across everyday.

5. Alabama...giving people with a legitimate interest in historical arms a bad name since 2007.
Sheesh.

Also, side note: Either the guy using the axe was an idiot or he caught Tordt on the backswing. A spike on an axe is primarily meant to penetrate heavier armor like plate or helmets - the only way I can see it being used on flesh (by someone competent, which these guys don't seem to have been) is if he swung, missed, and then swung it back spike-first.

I'm leaning toward the idiot theory, for some reason.

11. Can't be
Our folks actually know how to use this stuff. And insist that the other person is armed too. A golf club doesn't cut it. Unless you're dealing with a very eccentric Scottish knight...

there's a pic included in the link at the OP. I had the same thought, SCA folk run amok, but I guess these guys had the actual weapons! :hi:
