3. I go through the "Harley debate" every time I buy a bike. |
|
Harley has certainly improved their product over the years. I think they make a fine bike. However, I always come to the conclusion that it isn't worth the premium in price to have the brand.
That being said, you can't rule out that Harleys tend to have better resale on the backside.
I've had my current bike (a roadstar) for 7 years now...I love it!

But I'm not really into street cruisers. I mean, there comfortable to ride, but I hate how heavy they are since I ride dirtbikes all the time! Might as well get me a crotch rocket when I'm ready for a street bike :)

5. I grew up on dirt bikes... |
|
I miss them sometimes. I like the heavy cruiser. For some reason, it's very confidence inspiring. Also pretty comfortable over the long haul, believe it or not.

7. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. |

As a kid in the 60s, I used to watch local motocross in western NY state. There were always a couple of guys on those.

9. Yeah...heavy for a dirt bike |
|
my dad had a couple, and a couple of Yamahas. I grew up doing a ton of camping in the Sierras and they were a lot of fun.

8. Harley Davidsons stopped being motorcycles decades ago. |
|
Overpriced, overhyped, ridiculous monuments to the decline of American motorcycling.

all the guys dressed alike showing their rugged individuality. The really choice comments come when one of the "loud pipes save lives" guys drives past our Eurorider Tuesday night get togethers.
BTW, I've got two Guzzis. V-twin done the RIGHT way.
I'm impressed with the Buell engineering. I think there might be one in my future.

For one thing, I've got less pavement than dirt where I live.
For another, HD gets my respect after a Dakar win, no sooner. ;) "Bike," indeed.
On edit: In the interest of full disclosure, I ride orange.

Evo Sportster. It never breaks down, most reliable bike I have ever owned bar none. My hat is off to Harley for building a hell of a fine piece of machinery! :applause:

16. Hmm Can't vote, but... |
|
I am not a big Harley (or Buell) fan. I am more into the Sport bike scene. I cannot fathom the cost of a Harley in regards to performance/cost. I ride a Triumph,
I recognize the fact that Harley's have a high resale value, but much like the real estate market, this is a false economy. People financed expensive bikes and in turn, have to resell them for at least the pay off value left on the note. This is similar to all the McMansions in suburbia that sell for inflated prices.
basically, like the homes, you are buying an item worth half it's cost and then paying double for the image it creates for you.

17. to love or to hate.... hmmm |
|
I don't really feel love or hate, but both? I like the styling of most harleys. I do not like the need to have such loud exhaust.
I used to have (before an eye injury) a 1000cc yamaha sport/touring bike. It was big and heavy like a harley, but sadly still a crotch rocket. The muffler did a great job of keeping the noise down. In fact it was quieter than some sports cars. I loved that bike but I sold it due to vision issues.
I could see myself picking up a cruiser or maybe something small and easy riding if they were quieter. Are the buells any better on that front? Or is a loud harley all part of the joy of ownership?
